How about a section where we could spotlight a member every month or so. Do kind of a 20 questions thing. Purely voluntary of course. Seems like a cool way to find out things like how they got started in numismatics, other hobbies, and other coin and non coin stuff you know?
Just a thought.

Sounds like a great idea However I'd recommend doing it weekly instead so more people have a chance to get involved.

I'll have to put some thought into it.
Quite frankly I don't think it will fly. Do you really want people asking you 20 questions about you and your coin collection?
I could be wrong though.

I'm not saying we ask for pin numbers or safe combinations. I think we would all have interesting stories about how we got started collecting. A coin we have always wanted to own. Coins or coin set we could have lived without. Then maybe a few non coin questions. What was your last bowling score? First car you bought? How did you pick your screen name or avatar? Just a thought. If it sucks it sucks. These topics may be covered in other threads. Michael

I like the idea, but I think 20 questions is a bit much. Maybe 5 questions would be better.

I'm sorry, things like this though, I really need to be convinced.
Here's an example, the last suggestion I implemented, the Commemorative forum. Lots of posts saying we need one. So I made one. In the 3 weeks since I made it, there's been about a half dozen new topics. One of them was mine trying to kick start it, not one single reply. We didn't need it, so probably by next week, Commeoratives will be back in the main coin forum.
Recently brought up again, calendar of coins shows. I already did it once a while ago because every one was screaming we needed it. Spent about 20 hours building an entire calendar system for it. Six months later, not one single submission.
Another one, CC coffee mugs, t-shirts, and such. Tons of posts from people saying if they were available, they'd buy them. I spend a week making logos, designing stuff, and setting up a store with cafe press. That's been over a year and not one single sale, except to myself for giveaways.
I'm sorry if I sound a bit nasty here, but just because a few people think it's a good idea, doesn't mean it will work. I need more.

I know several of you, but there are plenty that I don't know, mostly because I don't necessarily stick my nose into all of the forums. I wouldn't mind seeing a member spotlight in some form.

I guess I'm in the minority. I like the Commemorative forum. Unfortunately it seems few people agree with me.

I like it too. Just doesn't seem that it was as ready to leave home as most people thought.

I like having a separate Comm forum but currently I just don't have anything I need to post in it

I like the idea of an occassional "get to know you" kind of questionnare too. I do think 20 questions is a bit much. 5 is better. A few questions could be coin related, a few about other hobbies or interests and maybe one on their funniest/most memorable moment...just suggestions.
I'd limit it to those meeting the 50 posts mark though, just like for the selling. You wouldn't want new folks coming on, filling out the questionnare and the dropping out of sight...sort of defeats the purpose of getting to know them when they don't hang around.

I think this is what the general discussion area is for to be honest. I haven't been spending near as much time on here since it's summer, but I have kick started a few topics on there to get to know people in essence and I think it has worked. Who's got pets. What kind of books do you read? What's you favorite car(that one didn't work as well....). I think we just need more people to think of off the wall topics, and more people to read the general discussion area. You automatically have 50+ post people also. The people that reply to topics like that are probably the only folks that would agree to 20 questions anyway!!
As for the Commem forum, I'm with our resident outcast! I like the forum, and visit it. I just don't have the time for the next month or two to be answering or starting new threads like I do during the winter months. I was actually just thinking of trying to compile an entire commem collection, and this forum would be nice. Having said that, you're the boss Dad!!
