The RCM's posted mintage figures for all hockey stuff seem to be unintelligible. For awhile it looked like the Ottawa set was the 'dark horse' of the series. I bought one way back just in case the figures had some bearing on reality. Recently I have seen many Ottawa sets being offered at the standard prices for the series. HOWEVER, I've noticed that I lately do not see the Toronto Goalie Mask ever being offered. Am I on to something?

I assume it's the shame of being a Leafs fan that keeps people from showing they have them. jk Go Jets Go!

Who woulda thunk only one Canadian team in the final eight. Hopefully my Kings hoist it 2 out of 3 years.

Does the coin with the Leafs symbolic has any relation to the real people? No difference with my license plate with the same symbols.

I have all 6 and 3 Ottawa. Only two of them were purchased at issue price. I think the coins are great and the presentation with the 'ice' stand is outstanding. Clearly I know nothing about what most people like.
Seems to me there are only two possibilities. Either the published mintage numbers are bogus, or the demand for these coins is extremely low. I suspect it's a combination of both. It really doesn't matter how limited a mintage is if no one wants the coin but it also seems unlikely that only 95 Ottawa coins were created. That's a pretty small batch for the Mint to waste time producing and the coins are still readily available 4 years later. The Sens have a decent fan base and Ottawa has many coin collectors so again, 95 in total and no demand just doesn't seem right.
Of course the Montreal coin did/does sell for a very good premium but I think that is because when most hockey fans (and goalies) think of the origin of the goalie mask, they think of Jacques Plante who was of course a Hab at the time he first wore one. Plus the bleu, blanc etc rouge have a large following for some inexplicable reason.
The Toronto coin will probably just give you hope, show signs that it will do well, and then just fade away.
Go Blackhawks.

From more from that Ottawa guy: Quote: ...Plus the bleu, blanc etc rouge have a large following for some inexplicable reason... Careful my friend, you're treading on thin ice. You don't want to antagonize all the Habs fans across Canada do you? Perhaps we'll be adding 2014 Oh yeah! Ottawa Senators - ZERO Stanley Cups

11 cups if you count the original Ottawa teams and the Habs have one exactly ONE since the modern Sens rejoined the league that being their first year in 92-93. I won't even point out what happened between the Habs and the Sens last year in the playoffs.... However, Montreal has about three or maybe four games left this year and that's only if Carey and the guys in stripes continue their play.

Replying to CC-Ottawa's posting yesterday (7May14): 1. Personally I think the "Goalie Masks" are some of the ugliest issues ever. And, they are cheap to produce and easy to counterfeit. (Sorry.) 2. Mintage figures are never explained by the RCM and they certainly do look bogus - but there is always the chance, however slim, that they are accurate. If there really are only 95 ever issued then I suppose I will have to change my mind about the Ottawa $20 Goalie Mask being "the ugliest". (It seems that the rarer a coin is it is also somehow more beautiful. Asside: However, one exception is that I can't imagine the 2007 "enameled" Thayendanegea ever tickling my artistic vein.) 3. The Canadian appetite for hockey is obviously legendary and inexhaustible! It's like a mysterious illness. Even my Dad (born in 1906, now deceased) who was born in the States but lived some of his fondest years in PQ contracted "HABS Fever". He spent the vast majority of his days in Massachusetts but couldn't help rooting for the HABS even when they played the Bruins in the playoffs. This might help explain why the Montreal 'mask' goes for such a huge figure - i.e. inexhaustible demand! (I do not have the same affliction, however, and am currently rooting for the Bruins but my Dad may be laughing as he watches from above. We're behind 2 to 1!) Thanks for your thoughts.

best line of this discussion? "The Toronto coin will probably just give you hope, show signs that it will do well, and then just fade away"
Thanks for the laugh.

Well CC, there will be at least another four games left...against the Rangers. GO HABS GOP.S How about a Carey mask coin? For the right Price it could be a sellout across Canada. Imagine a coin celebrating the Habs goalie minted in Ottawa... GO HABS GO

I still don´t understand what the deal is with calling that team the ¨Leafs¨, instead of using the correct word, ¨Leaves¨. It makes us look stupid, in my opinion.
Anyhoo, I think Felix Potvin had an amazing mask for his era.

Quote: still don´t understand what the deal is with calling that team the ¨Leafs¨, instead of using the correct word, ¨Leaves¨. English is a funky language. "Leaves" is more common but "Leafs" is also proper. Like "Hooves" and "Hoofs". Neither is more correct than the other.
