I did that earlier today. I searched through $67.00 of pocket change that I've been collecting in a vase for the past few months.
I found one 1963 dime.

I'd take a nice Barber quarter or SL quarter. I have so few nice ones.

get one of those $20 for $20 coins. that way if you mess up and decide you didn't really like the design, trade it in for another design.

I would simply go to banks and get rolls of coins. Look thorugh them and take the ones not liked or needed to another bank. Doing this you could eventually almost complete a Jefferson nickel set.

I know this is the classic forum.... but I would have to buy a raw proof Franklin half. You can "sometimes" find one with a cameo for around 20

I'm getting a 1919d in good condition tomorrow for $20.00. From a freind. Haven't looked to see if it's a good deal or not but he wanted to sell it and I said yes. I'm gonna look it up now. :)

$20 won;t get you much of anything nowadays.
That being said if I was on a mission I would walk into my LCS and buy the first coin that caught my eye and was priced in the case for $20.
Even though it would only be worth maybe $12-$15 (we all know they price them for wiggle room) and not look back ro at a price guide to find out it was only worth $12.
The reason you bought it was because you "liked" the coin and something drew you to it which is why it was "worth" $20 to you.

Quote:I would buy the best Buffalo nickel I could find, possibly a 1938D... For $7.19 shipped you could have had this. I couldn't pass at that price.
