Other collectors' most valuable coin is none of your business.

No need to be rude, I believe scottk is just curious. There have, however, been several near-identical threads in the past.Scottk, please don't be offended or surprised if some responses to this topic are abrupt to the point of rudeness. It may seem strange at first, given the subject matter of our collections, but money and valuables are a topic that some collectors are reluctant to discuss. Even with the relative anonymity of the Internet, some people simply aren't comfortable saying "I own valuable things". Not all criminals are illiterate thugs, and some have enough hacking and tracking skills to successfully locate the real-world addresses of someone who shouts too loudly and too often about how valuable their coins are. Besides, collectors usually appreciate their collections for what they are, not for what they're worth. For many collectors, myself included, which particular one of my coins happens to be "worth the most" at any given moment is simply not an important or relevant consideration. You'll notice I haven't answered your question myself; that's because I simply don't know the answer. I know which one I paid the most money for, and I know which one was the most valuable a decade ago the last time I had my collection professionally evaluated, but that's old data, not current data. I simply don't track those numbers. Collectors, in my experience, are much happier and more comfortable talking about "rarity" than about "value". So in the future, I think you'll find a much less hostile response if you ask the question, "What's your rarest coin?" instead.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

That comment just earned you two weeks off, scottk. Think about civil discourse while you're waiting.

Ones most valuable coin does not have to have much monetary value at all. Mine is the first coin I was ever given, that started me on the way to this "insanity" ! Today that beat up old Newfoundland half is worth about six bucks to sell. For me owning it is Priceless!

Instead of bashing the OP, Sap took the time to explain why threads like these often turn hostile, and did so in a very well thought out and courteous manner.

Nobody has been killed for their coins yet in 2015, but that statement probably won't be true by December. Few years go by without at least one numismatic-related murder. For those of you who sell, your phone number and $10 gives me your address even if you don't give it to me off the top. For those of you who have posted a few hundred times here, chances are you've let enough fact slip during your postings for me to find you even without Moderator privilege. If you're on Facebook, I will find you.
And then I can come for your coins.
Do you really want me knowing what you have that's valuable?

Scottk, I did not read your last post, but a personal attack? Please rethink this with an adult perspective. This is a family friendly site with great people giving great advice without being snarky. If you have a problem with anyone here, just ignore them. Read some of the great threads here, and some of the questions. Newcomers are not belittled, but encouraged. I encourage you to return and ask questions pertaining to your collecting, you might be pleasantly surprised.

that's one of the reasons I haven't responded to this thread until now even though scottk and I are sort of CCF pals. Tempers flair when it comes to coin values and collection worth so although I will offer an opinion as to grade or attribution I never offer opinions on value. All I need is some unscrupulous individual finding out how much I have or don't have.

The coin scottk posted was just purchased yesterday, for more than he had ever paid for a coin. A giddying experience for a collector; I think that's just where his head was at today.
