A $20 bill is all you have, so in most cases silver eagles would be out.

What would you buy?

There's not much you could do with a $20.
I would say in all cases a silver eagle would be out.
I suppose I would get a nice high grade Indian cent for my set

I'm working on filling out a few quarter folders with low end cheap hole-filler, fill it then upgrade

So I'd get 4 quarters... in fact I just did that earlier this month.

If the prices slides much more or you'd allow 2 bucks wiggle room I'd say get a Morgan to fill that folder

$20 isn't much to do anything. I'd probably end up buying scrap silver because that's pretty much all you could get.

Well, there are plenty of things you could get. A Kennedy half or two. A Franklin half, a walking half, 4 or 5 Mercury dimes, 2 or 3 silver quarters, a Three Cent Nickel, an Indian Head penny, etc. I guess the problem is that when you're buying average quality, and not buying in bulk, the shipping and premiums can eat up your funds quickly.

In my area, currently $20 can often buy a raw Morgan up to even in an XF grade, or a lightly circulated Peace dollar. I'm always happy to make that exchange.

Doesn't happen in my area of the country. It is very difficult to find any Morgan for under $25 here although I have found a dealer that has culls/lower grade Morgan's for $23. Maybe I should consider relocating to your area!

To the opening poster question I'd probably look for a high grade Walking Liberty half or Mercury dime on that budget. Perhaps a few early 1960's proof sets would be available at that price point.

Some more common year large cents in lower grades but problem free might also be available.

By a well-circulated Morgan from the LCS (they're $21, so I'd have to do a bit of bargaining.)

If you are interested in old coins you can buy a decent Large Cent from the 1840-1850's. Also, some Liberty V nickels are available especially the 1883 No Cents variety.

Here is a little ditty I picked up for 20 bucks. Seated half dimes and Seated dimes are a good trade for a $20 bill in my opinion. And the thing is, this wasn't a particular bargain. That's just what they go for. Heck, early Mercs in VF--EF range go for more. Yes, this is a common date, but still.... The obverse pic is closest to the in hand color. Horrible pics.

Another option: Try bidding on ebay for items that usually sells for few dollars more. It doesn't cost anything to bid and if you happen to win, now you got a good deal.

I would buy a very high grade 1996W dime. Probably around MS64 or if I found a deal higher. I know its not silver or anything but its a cool coin. Key date and even though I would probably overpay, itd still be something I would love.

Edit: oops didnt see this was in classic section. Its gotta be an IHC for me if we have to choose classic

I would probably buy a filler for my type set. It would have to be around fair because there isn't much left in my LoC type set album.

If you looked hard enough, I bet you could find an ounce of silver for twenty dollars.

I'd dig through the bargain bin or look through the foreign boxes for some old copper. I can usually find a coin or two from the 1700s with 20 bucks.
