I would like to think people had learned their lesson but I'm not holding my breath.

Quote: but as it is first in series any guesses of it becoming something like the first glow in the dark? It might be, but: unlike the first GITD, it has no "advanced technology", being just lenticular coin unlike the first from the "Birds" series, issued in the period, when the market is over saturated with the coins

Does anyone know if this is available to purchase directly from the mint to the United States? I am not an MC customer somI cannot tell. If not available for purchase from the mint, I was going to go ahead and buy it on ebay. Thanks

When the coin will be available for general public on the Mint site (June, 3-rd I suppose), it also will be available for purchase at dealers sites. Gatewest has section for US customers (wich has the same item as Canadian section), so I believe, it will be your best choice (or RCM itself).

Silveroid - I do purchase from the mint, but some coins will be Canada only shipment, like the FIFA coins or the silver Lucky Loonie. I was wondering if they were going to restrict this particular coin to Canada only shipping

Hello Opera12mi, The FIFA and Lucky Loon coins are Canada only because of licensing deals the mint has to make with the IOC and FIFA. The license only extends to Canada so there are restrictions. All other coins should be available to the USA.

@CoinCanuck: I believe, that it will be great addition to your collection and the theme is new. But what is unique in this coin, what is different from "santa visit" or "superman"?

Since you asked...I think the Mint may actually be pulling ideas from random Google searches or maybe children's cartoons. No technology innovation, no historical significance other than being based on a fairy tale, and no precious metal. This is aimed at kids. It may bring in new collectors but I doubt it. I'd think less bird series, GITD series and more 2011 Mythical Creatures series or 2010 Dinosaurs series which were a total flop - not much collector interest, no secondary market appreciation and finally heavily discounted. The list of these gimmicky coins is long. Other than maybe one or two of the NHL lenticulars, I can't think of any of them that were desirable. I honestly don't know why the RCM continues to push lenticulars. They are just duds and though I own several, none of them ever seem to live up to the promised description. They just don't look good as coins. But hey, the kids love "3-D" and will buy anything so let's make more, more, more. PS - Is this the 'first' lenticular quarter produced? I think all the rest have been 50 cents so there's that.

Very nice detalization of the theme. I liked the addition of the lenticular coin to the set of the Superman coins, as inexpensive item for fun and kids....

Far too much of a gimmick for me. I think issues such as this are best left to tokens or medals - not official coinage.

The RCM is trying to gain the interest of the younger generation so they can build a customer for the future which makes sense. The $30 price tag for a coin will make it easier for people to get involved in the hobby. That is also probably why they've continued to peddle the 20 for 20 coins. Saw a kid about 10-13 years old the other day purchase a 20 for 20 from CP. I wanted to say I'll sell you mine for $20 so he could save his $5 but I felt it would be weird because I was a stranger and he was just a kid. Here in Toronto we have a few famous haunted locations. Castle loma, the Gibraltar point lighthouse the bright peal? or something peal in chinatown.
