I think it is basically true that most coin collectors hate or dislike the State Quarters and the baby sized dollar coins. However, from what I've seen of kids, they do like the quarters, learn about other states, learn how to spell other states. Then there is the many manufacturers of all those coin folders and albums that just just got into the buisness and are doing OK due to those types of coins. The really big mistake the Mint made was in the size of the dollar coins. If they would have turned the half dollar into the presidential coins they would have gone over much better. A dollar coin the size of a quarter, regardless of the size is just nuts. The majority of people don't like them, don't use them, are afraid they will ger mixed up with quarters. I like it when I get one in change for a quarter but really get made at myself when I suspect I've given one away as a Quarter.
In the not to distant future all the rolls of those baby dollars will end up back in the banks. Back in the 70's, myself and a freind went nuts saving those Bicentennial Quarters. After 30 years their value was still a quarter. Lost a lot of interest in a savings account. Could have bought lots of pizzas for that. Anyway they all ended up back in the bank since no one wanted them.
Maybe the Beanie Baby craze will return.
