The Greece Lepta, is that made from zinc or steel perhaps?

The issues of 5, 10 and 20 lepta from 1954, until the denominations were discontinued due to inflation, were all made of aluminium.

Here is a 1921 Netherlands East Indies 5 Cent coin I recently obtained for a couple of dollars.
Do you think it would make a difference if I soak it overnight in acetone? The coin seems to have some dirt attached to it.

Acetone ought not hurt it, but may not help much either. A better first step might be a long soak in distilled water. It can be surprising just how well that can work in dissolving surface deposits, especially if they're organic in nature.
