Looks like he is buried worse than six feet under. Common, common , and more common. It is a real shame that people buy all this modern RCM stuff and never become experienced numismatists. In our business we see this modern "granny bait" all the time. One collection offered was over 300K at cost! When I asked him why he bought this stuff..............answer ....it was easy and the mint would never steer him wrong. NCLT from the RCM is becoming like a new issue stamp bazaar! What a joke!

I'm 100% with you. The mint sells nothing but crap and I wouldn't even touch their stuff for over melt. My dealer says he pays 1/3 issue price for it and then *hopes* to sell for 60% of issue price and I don't think he's lying. I bought a set of 3 RCM coins from Kijiji for 60% of issue and can't even sell them for that much anymore... Still got my 7 $20 for $20's lying around ugh... dealers won't even take them for face anymore...

Will agree in general with over flooding by the Mint's peices of numismatic art, but this: Quote: I'm 100% with you. The mint sells nothing but crap and I wouldn't even touch their stuff for over melt do you usually get other stuff for melt or near it? I believe, even if we'll show to someone rare or un-usual coin (circulation, or commemorative), the person without any mean to offence will say, this this is just junk - nothing to do with this, and no use in this. So here, the modern RCM suff not different from any other coin.

Quote: Still got my 7 $20 for $20's lying around ugh... dealers won't even take them for face anymore... you can easily get $25 a piece for these on ebay.. some even $30 a piece. Personally I think there's a few nice coins the Mint puts out, regardless if they go up in value or not. If you looking to "invest" money in something coins is not it.

Quote:you can easily get $25 a piece for these on ebay.. some even $30 a piece. Easily is not the right word since most $20 for $20 go unsold on ebay. If you look at completed sales you will see a few do sell for $30 or $25 but not consistently. It usually the first 20 for 20 coin that sell for $30 or more. The rest sell for $25 or less. And if you sell them for $25, you end up with around $22 after the eBay/Paypal fees. Hardly worth the effort to earn $2 when you have to pack and take them to the post office.

Well, the one good thing about Mint coins is if you no longer like what you bought, or you have too many common coins, gift them. Most everybody oohs and awwws Mint coins. So if you give them away as gifts, you can't lose.

I have always had no trouble selling extra's at $25 + Shipping... After fees/shipping and such I end up with $25 which is 20% more then I paid so it's not bad at all.

We have well over a hundred 20- 20 pieces and they are indeed "Black Plague". You literally cannot give these things away. We do coin shows , two different flea markets and have a very large ebay presence. With the exception of the first issue and the Penny issue no one cares. We did have a discussion with our bank and they will take them for a credit card or LOC payment with a processing fee. The 20 for 20 , 50 for 50 , and 100 for 100 program is just another RCM joke of a " new issue stamp program" . At least with all the junk stamps that Canada post issued over the past 30 or so years, we have a use for them.. our ebay shipments.

I find plenty of scrap silver for melt, My dealer usually had about 300oz-400oz at any time. But my opinion is my own. I don't collect coins for investment but I'd like that when it does come time to sell I don't get $20 for a coin I paid $75 for. And if anyone would like the $20 for $20's for face + Shipping I'd gladly do that. Not to mention that I have other RCM stuff to sell under List as I'm sure most sellers and dealers do.

These things happen in life. You go through a rough patch and need some money. People will never give you what your item is worth when your in a rush to sell. It can be your car, jewelry or in this case a coin collection. My brother lost about 4 grand the min he drove his new car off the lot. It's the facts of life your going to lose money on purchases you make.
I'll admit the mint has pushed out far to many coins as of late and have lost a huge following but that doesn't take away from the great coins they've produced in the past. When have regular LT coins sell for their book value. I've built up a small collection of older coins and I never have to pay anywhere near it's book value, should we call those junk as well?
