Quote: Means nothing with a 20k mintage , as some already went to dealers, some may not have been made yet, plus we don't even know if its actually true , quite easy to manipulate that figure True, probably a bunch of them gone to dealers but I don't think many dealers order these coins as they don't get discount on these coins. So they have to sell above value. Most sell the $100 for $100 at least around $110 plus shipping. Canada post is the only one that have free shipping but they sell them for $125.

I understand that mostly they sell for issue (non hot item), while call it "sale". I also believe that this tactics should work for some period. But for years.....it looks silly. So if we will go back to the coin - if it will be sold out fro Mint, doesn't meter, who will hold the coins (dealers or CP) - we will not see it for issue.

I think the RCM is lost as it has outsourced too much decision making to marketing agencies like Cossette. I'm also wondering why this $200 for $200 topic is reaching 7 pages on this forum while the same topic on Numicanada just have a few reply. Is the RCM marketing team boosting good reviews on this forum ?

Part of the 7 pages on this forum is made up of most valuable comments from real collectors. Trust me. No RCM marketing is boosting good reviews here.

If I buy something inexpensive at the RCM in Ottawa and I pay with a $200 for $200, what kind of change will I get ? coins or paper money ?

If they will not have small change, like nickel, so for sure they will give you "2012 Farewell to Penny" 5 coins set (5 cents in total), with apologies, that they must to give the box too... People just express here their opinion, or simply say "I will buy / I won't" .... so 7 pages for hot and nice looking coin - it not much.

I like it and just put an order in, although I'll say $200 for $200 is the highest I'll go, and even then I hope this one is a once-per-year thing. I got on the Canadian $xx for $xx thing late, not until late last year, so I had to buy most of the $20 for $20 in aftermarket on ebay, paying a slight premium. Also doing the $50 for $50 and $100 for $100. I don't collect any other Canadian coins, but I really like these series. The $20 for $20 designs have declined in their designs in 2014, but hopefully they'll turn it around in the future. I really wish they'd do this in the U.S., and I think the U.S. Mint could profit nicely on the seignorage, but it probably requires and act of Congress and would probably never happen. Too bad, because it would be nice to have bullion coins at face value that display beautiful renderings of Americana, much like the RCM has done with its renderings of Canadiana.

bkprewitt, the concept is cool, but the execution is terrible. I wold be fine with a one ounce silver coin with a face value of $50, or a two ounce coin with a FV of $100, but it's like the mint wants to have the weight/FV ratio low enough that you can never profit off just the silver by buying these. The mint does not need to make 4 times spot on a piece that is produced with a de facto bullion finish. Reduce the cost, or increase the weight of the coin.

Will agree with Anjohl here. being myself ordered this coin, I hate, when expensive piece comes initially with poor quality. But, hope, that the "Mate finish" will be like on O Canada coins (that very nice done), and not like on "100for100 Bison". The prices near $100 per 1oz (also overpriced), related to RCM numismatic coins, with some enchantments, this one could be $150 max. But I like the design...

The $x for $x series simply frustrates me. There are a few that have been very well done and as a collection, the barrier for entry is quite low.
However, I also despise them with every fiber of my being. I certainly hope the trend does not move further in this direction, because it will absolutely drive me away from dealing in Mint product. When you have the producer of these items making promises (that are tenuous, at best) of their value sustained across all markets, it makes it nearly impossible for us to make any money. We are expected to pay face value for these because, from the mouth of Mint employees, banks will redeem them for that much; and we are then expected to sell them at face value because that's what the retail price is. Add to that the ridiculously high mintage numbers, essentially assuring there is more than enough to meet demand, trying to sell them above face value makes us look like thieves to a lot of potential customers.
I like the coins, I hate everything surrounding them.
