Thanks. Johhny origially messaged me when I started on this forum and told me about his sets. ;I told him then I was just buying what I like. But after all everyones posts it seems more exciting to actually have a direction or a quest, as the quarter eagle set will be,

That's an awesome coin, congratulations on your pick up! I can see how that would set you back a pretty penny! Good luck on your set, keep us updated and let us know if this beauty gets a green bean!

Well, you know I have already infiltrated the forum with subliminal messaging that reads something like "buy classic gold NOW"...anyone who accesses the forum, is already infected by my hypnotism. Soon everyone will collect classic gold, and I will conquer the world!!

Whats your opinion..
This coin looks like it was CAC especially when compared to my others which did. However, does having the element of being a key date with more value make them more discriminatory? I would think they are more careful with coins of this value.

I would think they are more careful with coins of this value. My 2 cents: Your coin appears to have a great shot at a CAC green sticker as a 63. Strike, surface preservation, eye appeal, and luster all look very solid for a 63. A key date with high value most definitely makes it tougher to get a green bean. CAC is well known as being very tough on MS65 Saints and that applies to some extent on all high value coins. Stickering a $300 coin is easier and simpler (read less risky) than putting your money on a $3000 coin.

I agree. But I think I should do it anyway, right? If it does get the sticker, the price will shoot up to MS63+ type of money, from what I'm told.

If I owned it, I would submit to CAC. From the pics I give it a 50/50 chance. Regardless, that date is undervalued and worth accumulating at the right price in MS-62 or higher. And the 11-D has come down in price and is also WAY undervalued in my opinion. A good time to put together a collection -- concentrate on the earlier dates, they are a lot rarer and a better value than the later dates. Did you buy the Akers books on ebay? They were a pretty good deal and tough to find.

Jim I didn't order the set because I can't afford the extra right now but I did order the book on quarter eagles.

Great, you should enjoy the book. When I put my sets together, I found the 1910 and 1912 to be particularly tough to find, so if you come across them (if you don't already have them) treat them as a high priority. Good luck with your set.
