Added a Kookaburra yesterday. So I am in my LCS and they had two loose kookaburras in there case and a third slabbed ms70 dcam anacs slab. He quotes me $35 for the loose Kookaburra's and the slabbed one is $30 so yep my world bullion collection as know 3 slabbed anacs ms 70 bullion pieces that found there way free from the slabs. My brittania, my noahs ark, and my Kookaburra.

sirdizzy, I am also a proponent of raw and ungraded bullion in my collection, as I am not a prescriber to the idea that a slab has any real value. However, it seems that keeping it in the slab might make it more valuable to someone else if I ever decided to sell it. If it's already in the graded slab, why not leave it?
I just picked up a wedge tailed eagle and they all come in a slab with Mercanti's autograph, even the ungraded ones. I left it in the slab, thinking that someone else might care more about it than I do.
I'm sure you've considered this already. What were your thoughts on why it didn't matter?

My thing is this-

dealers wont and dont want to give you a premium for slabbed bullion coins. nor do they want to pay up for say a proof 1 oz gold coin with a limited run because to them its all the same, bullion.

Yet I am sure if they get wind of a coin thats popular and slabbed, they wont cut much off the coin.

THAT SAID, I understand the dynamics of business, margins and making money. Just while I wouldn't mind supporting my local coin shop, I wouldnt be really interested in selling them much of my coins, ebay would be the place.

I can see how ebay would be a good place to get the best return on your bullion. My question was more along the lines whether there is a benefit to breaking a coin that is now yours out of a slab, especially if it is graded? Why not just leave it slabbed since someone may pay more for that later, whether selling on ebay, LCS, or some other way?

"in my perception bullion is the coin that has metal and weight (less often purity) inscribed on the coin ..."
I totally agree with this. Look at a Libertad and look for a peso-denomination. It is what it is - it doesn't try to be money, it is just a bargaining chip.

I just noticed APMEX has a tempting ebay special for a good "starter" world bullion collection for about $23 per coin:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-Silver...141390832896

- 2014 1 oz Silver American Eagle
- 2014 1 oz Silver Canadian Maple Leaf
- 2014 1 oz Silver Austrian Philharmonic
- 2014 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburra
- 2014 1 oz Silver Somalian Elephant
- 2014 1 oz Silver Chinese Panda
- 2014 1 oz Silver Mexican Libertad
- 2014 1 oz Silver Britannia
- 2014 1 oz Silver Australian Koala
- 2014 1 oz Silver Lunar Year of the Horse (Australia)

Triple Australia, though.

Also a 5 coin one, too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-Silver...141390832875

If it weren't for the fact that I already own most of those coins, I would probably jump on this.

I'm with barryg - I love the idea that APMEX is doing this. I think they may have done something similar on their direct website last year, but the cost per coin was pretty high, if I remember correctly. On second thought, maybe they were just reselling the Fab 15 collection. I'm really not sure. It was seeing it, though, that kind of got me interested in a world bullion set initially.
Unfortunately, I am too impatient to wait until this late in the year to start buying some of them. At $23 per coin with free shipping, and with some of those coins going from much higher on their own, that's a pretty good price.

Wow! That's seems like a great deal. I already have most as well, but at that price I may double up on some :). Does anyone know if the deal is only on ebay or available on their website too? I couldn't find it but only quickly looked using this time mobile device.

Just be aware that you will NOT get the Britannia design that is being offered on the 2014 5 Oz coin,, shame on you APMEX for not showing the proper Britannia that folks will be getting....

that right there turns me off....

btw, at the rate that silver is falling here.. you can put yourself the same set for a lot less. My guess is APMEX has a glut of silver 1 oz coins and need to unload them before prices tank and scare away everyone...

Wow, that is a pretty good deal! Can't afford it right now, but I'll add it to my watch list.

Not bad set. Fairly easy and cheaper bullion to get on their own. I would just be afaid of the quality of these sets. APMEX is known for grading everything and selling the less quality coins on its own....

I have the majority of that collection not looking to double up right now.

As far as breaking out the coins I think having them slabbed doesn't increase the value much nor does it make them easier to sell. I paid say $26 for the brittania I could easily come close to getting that slabbed or unslabbed on ebay and close to spot at a LCS so only a small loss. I wanted them in an album so I cracked them out.
