#1. This coin isn't worth a 2x premium for that color.

That's YOUR opinion, and opinions vary. Maybe it was worth it to him.

#2. Let alone in an NGC slab.

This makes no sense. It's a holder made of plastic just like PCGS. Different companies. Different looking products with the same purpose. And don't get me started on the "delusion" of PCGS's superiority.

But I wouldn't have bought it in the first place...

Totally unnecessary. Sorry, but your first response is rather haughty.

Darth, RE #1, he's admittedly inexperienced with toners. Given that I've bought and sold hundreds of Morgans with varying states of toning, both raw and graded, I think I know the market a little better than him, and most other people.

As for #2, the so called "delusion" of PCGS's superiority is reflected in market pricing, especially when it comes to toners. Get a toner in an NGC slab, people will like it... get it in a PCGS slab and they will love it. Regardless of if the superiority is real or not, PCGS holders are in more demand and therefore, command higher prices. There are many individuals who won't even consider an NGC slabbed coin, and while I think they're crazy, they're entitled to that opinion. Maxing out a coins value means getting it into PCGS plastic, with a few notable exceptions.

I haven't seen you come right out and place a value on the coin yet... so let me ask you, what would you price this coin at?

Thank you for the informed, educated and detailed response that counters the points that I've made with solid, empirical evidence. If you want to get into a debate over market pricing on toners and the slabs they are in, I will gladly debate it with you provided you prove that you know what you're talking about, otherwise I'm just wasting time.

CTB- you sure do remind me of someone that USED to be a forum member here. Your attitude and language are exactly the same. FWIW, you're not more informed than anyone else. You're just more conditioned into the flock of PCGS followers.

I believe that is fixed now?

I am sorry if I overreacted, but telling me that I don't know what I'm talking about irritates me. I believe there are sufficient data points available via the web to prove my point and I will probably put together a thread in the near future that backs up my assertions of PCGS providing a better return on investment than NGC, via higher realized prices, which must reflect demand given simple economics.

CTB- I don't disagree with you regarding the price difference between PCGS and NGC slabbed coins. I know there is a difference. That wasn't my point. There is a pervading "perception" that PCGS is better than anyone else, and the data (market prices) tend to support this. But the key word here is "perception". In reality, I don't believe that there is a difference between the two. After all, if you crack out a coin in an NGC slab and resubmit it to PCGS, isn't it the same coin? Did the coin change any? Would this act just be an attempt to get a different grader's opinion to be possibly better? Someone's opinion is better than another's opinion? Even with this perception in the market place, why did the Smithsonian Institute choose NGC to encapsulate its coins? Doesn't PCGS make mistakes just like NGC? There are just too many instances like these that make me feel as though this perception has no basis in reality. You know how I view NGC and PCGS? Two different companies that produce two different kinds of holders. That's it.

PS: I edited the last sentence of my last post. There is no need for me to get smarty back at you. If I'm gonna talk the talk then I better walk the walk. We're just not going to agree on this subject. With that said, I'm going to sign off from this thread.

Hmmmm... It would be nice if there was a common respect throughout this thread for all different types of collectors.

Nasty comments are not what this Forum is about.

Maybe everyone needs to take a step back and re-read what they're about to upload and think how others may take your comments.
