Great thread so far and thanks to all who are contributing. I enjoy seeing these coins from High to low grade. Many beautiful pieces here! I can't wait to see what is to come in the next few weeks of this.

here's a plain old ordinary large cent that came to me with some of my grandpa's things when he passed away (at 96!) this is from his birth year and was set aside for him by his parents when he was born in 1911. in fact they put aside the whole type set! very special considering they couldn't afford the 91 cents at the time. the fact that it stayed with him through out the depression, and another 70 years after that is simply amazing.

Wade,
I don't want to be a "rainer on the parade", but I spend some time on both family history and coins. I am afraid the family lore on this set is not quite right. This set was not put away in 1911....I would guess more like 1941..... Many times I have found family lore is not correct..memories fade....

But say why Smallcentguy! Perhaps because you feel that it would take approximately 30 years (1911 - 1941) for these coins to appear in this condition? Certainly these 1911 coins were not plucked from circulation in the year they were made (1911) looking like this.

1918 large cent. These coins turn up pretty regularly in junk trays in the UK. I daresay a few were passed off as British halfpennies by Canadian servicemen in WWI.

First AU large cent I got. It was soon after I started collecting, about two years ago

I am a little early on this, but I am not sure if I will be able to post tomorrow. I am going to put up two coins...both are in older holders (the 1935 is in a crimped certificate holder) and the 1925 holder is particularly dirty and scratchy. I will get ICCS to redo it one day. This one is perhaps the nicest George V cent I have seen. The holder has a few blemishes. This next one is the best I have seen of its pretty tough year.
