Okay I go to the bank quite often to pick up coins I try to search as fast as I can and then return them for more so I was wondering if edge searching will help speed up production I've also herd that it is bad and coins get missed what are risks vs. strengths to edge searching
I edge search to pull out the 90%ers, but when it comes to Halves I still go through them because you can't tell a clad from a 40%er from the side. but for quarters and dimes I only edge search unless of course they come wrapped in paper.
I dont reccomend it. Lots of people miss silver because it could be a dirty silver and you would mistake it for a clad coin. Look at every coin. With dimes, try using a jewellers loupe to see the small dates and mintmarks.
Strengths -it cuts down on the amount time spent going through rolls especially if you have many boxes to search -Instant gratification (you can quickly identify the silver !)
Risks -you could miss out on some silver coins with some denominations -you miss out on amazing errors - you could miss out varieties -you could miss out the chance to find key dates
So depending on the amount of time you want to spend CRH you can weigh the risks against the gains. Personally I would advise going through each coin , yes it might take time but you could find other treasures in those rolls other than just silver
