Thanks for these offerings here..
I would agree with you..47P7...great coin..and nice doubling in the chin, and repunched 8/8..
.. and is that pic from a scan or a photo. I'm often guessing with your pics here.
Thankfully, I do have a 99 for tomorrow.

Thanks MG for those 3 great ones. The "Bar 99" is so cool..and a very interesting die crack in that bow. ..and the others both look like gems.. Very special 99's above here...and the picture quality on that last 99 is outstanding..and the best here by far... I've added a touch of 'contrast' on this 99 and that darkens it,..the same happened for many of my 5 cent silvers to try and see details or repunches in the dates a bit better. The actual coins are more yellow or golden in colour ..and then through the 2 sheets of clear. . .

Now those are very pretty 99's from MG ..and now 47P7.
47P7 ..I see that you can also produce colourful darker ones. ..and definitely from a good digital camera.
MG seems to have a way to get super details from ~100 kbs pics. I don't understand how they come to us so crisp and sharp.. You can actually see the fine luster across the whole gem coin.. Could it be because of the 2 sheets of plastic and the full sun, that causes mine to look a bit dazzled at times?
Would be nice to see more pics from other 5 cent collectors ..

D, when it comes to Digital cameras, there is only one name IMO. and that is Canon. U use Nikon. I guess it is a personal preference. and my C- body is not high end. I guess it is the SW I use after. there is a setting which "forgives" nearly every mistake you make when taking the pix. it puts it back to what the camera actually saw and ignores all the fancy setting you could use. all with one click.

47P7...I'm using the Nikon..because my wife graciously lets me "borrow" it for the coins. My Kodak Brownie just wasn't cutting it when it comes to quality coin pics. Yes Bill (wish he was back here) has drawn me to the "dark side" of large cent collecting and I'm having fun with the different aspects and varieties of the 59's and other years. Jack Griffin and Dr.H and Bill and Rob ..and quite a few others have poured many years of work into the large cents...for us. It also gets me somewhat away from all of my shiny (as Bill calls them ) large cents, plus Rob's books are a joy to read and study with.. Thanks MG for showing varieties that I've never seen before.. Here we go as only one more day remains after these.. First the narrow 00's Wide OO's There "might" be a little repunching in the last wide O and also in the 1,..but I'm not sure.. The mint reported 36 obverse and 19 reverse dies used in 1900. ..so maybe a few more 'unknowns' are still out there.. . . .

D, I have recently purchased Rob Turners Books. a lot of work went into this project. On the other hand, I can not wrap my head around Dr. Haxbie's system. And, basically I have decided not to pursue it. Am still looking for all sort of large cents in high grades, and will soon divest myself of the lower grades I have. There is a ton of knowledge apparent when it concerns Large cents, and an equal ton of "shoulder patting". If the subject is any other denomination, there seems to be very little, if any interest.

Thanks for all of the coins that we are seeing here today. Some really special ones coming in by you guys today..
My feeling is that cents and 5 cent pieces were easy enough to put away without making too much of a dent in your $$$.
If you put a vicky 50 cents piece on the side from way back then ( think of the depression also ),.. you were taking a huge piece of your earnings out of the loop. Only the few wealthy collectors could afford to do that I would guess.
Probably a lot easier on all account to collect cents and 5 cents than the other higher denominations..
