Story time.. The best 85 that I've ever seen was at Coin Expo this spring. I haven't bought a 5 cent silver for ~25 years now and am new to the market. Never had the opportunity to get "the perfect 85" and that's fine. There was a 'finest known' sm 5 over sm5 1885 for the auction viewing this past spring. ICCS graded it MS63 sm 5 /sm 5. I looked and was amazed at what I was looking at !! .. I passed it over to the past "Trends Editor" and he quickly exclaimed "Wow..Large 5 over 5 ..but it's triple struck he said.." My feelings also.. It was very easy to see the bold three 5's in the last digit. .. Not in the Charlton ..and the most knowledgeable ICCS 5 cent grader called it only a sm 5 over sm 5. ...and I don't know why.. The starting bid was too rich for me ...and it cost ~$10,000.00 to take it home.. An amazing rarity for sure and I was glad to have had the chance to hold and examine it.. and wonder.."What if" ..

your 1886 is a low large 6 but this thing through the 6? maybe a die problem... it might just be a REP L6L6 Mike M, what do you think?

This is what I was hoping for .. Great additions ..one and all..The different 6's look like a minor and major RP's here and there are so many 1886's listed in the back of the 2010 Charlton that maybe all weren't included. see pages 318 to 327.. 47P7.. That 3 make's that coin a 1385 with a strong RP'd 5.. An amazing find in my books.. If only they (the graders) would actually put the true RP info on the label..Where else would we get to see these special silvers if it wasn't here.? Thanks for sharing these major varieties with us.. .. And here's my small 6 offering.. Looks like the 1 is repunched and the first 8 is repunched over the 3 ..and the top of the 2nd 8 has something there also..and sm 6 over 6.. Looks like Charlton p.321.. OF5 RF5 .. Narrow date, 1/1 Small 6/6 (RP-1) The mint employees were having fun with these 86's.. . . .

@ 47pt ICCS will not certify it until Charlton recognizes it and includes it in a book.... Best bet is to send it to CCCS If Louis & his other grader clearly sees it he will then slab it as such.. Geez that puts that one up there with my 1870 8 over 5 dime... Great find
