Aside from the obvious rim damage, is there anything to suggest that this is not real? I don't mind the damage if I can pick it up cheap enough. These are the only pictures the seller has provided:

Looks legit to me, however lets see what other members say. I think I would be bothered by the rim dings, but if you don't mind, than I don't see any reason not to buy.

Well, it's for my type album and I really can't afford an example with this much detail without the rim dings. This is at an auction, so it will probably end up selling for a ton of money anyway, but right now it's only at around $500. I'm thinking that, without the rim dings, it would probably grade at around a VG10, which would make it worth somewhere around $1500.

If it's legit and I could get it for under $1000, I'd be happy.

Nothing odd here, although that's a heck of a lot of rim dings for one coin.

I'd say authentic.
But I personally would never be happy with such a damaged coin.
To each his own, eh.

I have both a genuine 1799 and a counterfeit.
Makes a great learning aid.
The above example looks legit to me.

Looks definitely legit to me, no problems I could find from those picsâ€"except those nasty rim damage. Arrgh, why should such a beautiful coin with excellent colors and even wear have to be the victim of such disgraceful numismatic violence?

Looks real to me. Personally I'd rather have a lower grade without problems, but that' me.

Yeah, it's just that I really have a thing about wanting to make out the key details, and that's about as low a grade as I can stand...

Has a very similar look to my pre-turban halves. I would say its authentic.

May not hurt to send it to PCGS for verification, IMO.

Well, the coin isn't mine yet, and given the fact that the bidding is now up to $800 (with a 18% buyer's premium), I don't think it will be, either. I definitely don't think this is a $1000+ coin.

Thanks for all the responses!
