I found this 1976 penny a few weeks ago in my coin hoard... guess I kept it due to the missing detail and tapered thickness. Any idea on how this would happen? I thought it was pretty cool. Thanks.

My guess is that it was put on a train track.

Is the coin not perfectly round? If yes, then PMD. Someone squished it outside the mint.

After comparing to a US penny, the coin is oblong on the thinner side. Probably belonged to a penny pincher!
