Okay, this is my road less taken of Roman coins. I know next to nothing about 4th century Siliqua and their values. So how much is this Siliqua of Valens worth ? Thanks.

Weight 2.21 grams
Diameter 18mm

Notice the flan crack
Valens-Siliqua-?

Very nice detail and a well centered coin. The crack is going to effect the value some. I don't have any of this type so I can't help with the price. You can check vcoins or acsearch to see what they are selling for.

Found it on Vcoins for $150. I suppose the question now is" Is it worth a $150 dollars" ?

This is (late) 4th century, not 3rd.

Although $150 is not a bargain for this coin, it is nevertheless reasonably good value for money in this condition, with a complete design.

If it were mine, I would have been satisfied with the purchase.

I think its about right, a pleasing coin but its a shame about the flan crack, it would probably be worth twice as much without it.

Flan cracks don't usually bother me when buying. This one I would pass on though, it's a little far across the coin for my liking and as I am not the most gentle of folk when handling such things, the inevitable break would probably occur!

Can't say much as to it's value, it is pretty interesting though.

I'd say $100 plus/minus $20 is a closer mark. I don't think the crack makes much of a difference but the dark toning is not the most attractive (in my opinion)

I think the toning is more a matter of personal preference, to some it may attract, and others detract. Personally I quite like deep toning like this. The flan crack doesn't put me off either but many collectors are only willing to pay top money for perfection in a coin so it will without any doubt affect its value.

I'm with Ancientnoob on this one. I love cracked coins. So much character.

And there we see one of the beauties of collecting ancient coins. No set rules as with 'modern' coinage. If it's cracked, so what, adds character. Shows us just how many choices there are open to us. I do buy coins with cracks but once they get as far across the coin as this one, especially with the coin type being so thin, I would go for a different example, unless the detail of the bust IS as good as it looks on the photo then I might have a go at around the £40-50 mark.

I agree even with the crack it's a very nice coin and one that I would love to add to my collection.
