I live in Brisbane, a city of over 2 million people. There are three B&M coin dealerships in this city, which I visit regularly. There's also one auction house that specializes in coins, they hold auctions 3 or 4 times a year. There are also at least half a dozen dealers that do the local Sunday markets, local coin fairs and/or operate an Internet/mail order dealership.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

I have one in my town, and another a few towns over that I only visit when I'm in the area. I'm sure there are more close by but those are the only two I visit. I also use ebay on rare occasions.

There are about 5. One I truly trust on getting my more expensive coins. The other ones I get regular silver and random foreign coins.

Only 2 here. One of them is a complete ripoff and the guy that runs it is a complete ________ (I shouldn't say it) Not sure how he stays in business. The other shop I deal with is fantastic. They know me on a first name basis and I get great deals. I also do a lot of buying on ebay due to the lack of turnover here and no coin shows.

Withing 8 miles of my house there are none. Within the entire city not including pawn shops or "we-buy-gold" there are perhaps 4 legitimate coins shops, there are also some flea market sellers who sell overpriced coins among other things.
Yeah, Calgary is not really the place to go if you're looking for a huge variety. In a city of 1.4million we don't have much.

There are 3 in my area. One is really bad and overpriced, the other I frequently visit, and another that I seldom visit, but the owner goes to my coin club.

Quote: Maybe 15-20 or more. I do live in a city with a metropolitan population of 1,000,000 people though. Only half are quality, and half charge $5-$50 more than the coin's value. Put another zero in the population figure and you have my situation. In fact, if I include the entire 30-mile radius, I suspect "15-20" is a major underestimate in my case (an underestimate by several orders of magnitude if we count all these stands selling overpriced country sets - but one hardly ever finds anything worth buying at these). There are two pretty decent ones I can think of that I can almost literally take a bus to from my home block; and both are major locations that each might count as more than one shop anyway (one - the Izmaylovo Vernisage I keep bringing up on the ancients forum - is basically a huge flea market with a lot of coin sellers; the other is essentially a hobby-themed shopping mall, which includes at least a dozen separate numismatic stores).

I got 4, only visited one so far. Unless I find a treasure chest full of dough, I won't be going back there anytime soon. There was not one coin in the whole shop that was under $1000.

We just got back from Las Vegas and I am surprised there is only a single retail shop in the city and they are not the best. That is a city of over 1,000,000 people WOW! Paradoxically the coin shows they put on are second to none and the Las Vegas Numismatic society is a great club. Back on track , here on Vancouver Island in Victoria there are 6 shops (pop under 300,000 ) go figure!

Sort of depends on if you mean just a coin shop. Around where I live there are countless coin shops, hobby shops, pawn shops and other places that sell coins. Even seen them in shopping malls. Actual coin shops that sell primarily coins are rare but so many sell other things to compensate. For example I know of one coin shop that sells stamps, sporting stuff, ancient relics, etc.
