I went hog wild crazy back in January 2009 and purchased several national bank notes from neighboring towns on Heritage...massively overpaid for them, but I don't regret it one bit.

I bought this one in mid-2009 from Heritage a good friend lived in this town and the note was in excellent shape.

She knew the woman who signed this note as the assistant cashier.

I collect Virginia National Currency notes so that's mainly what I have. All are plainbacks except for the $20 Lynchburg note. It's the cousin of hajduk's $10 Lynchburg that he posted!

What an incredible showing of large nationals today!

I'd love to own one from the national bank here in my hometown, but they're nowhere to be found. I recently discovered that there is a local collector who has bought up pretty much every note that has ever come to market.

Guess I need to figure out how to get mentioned in his will ...

Typeguy what bank and city are you after?

I know of an auction house that has sales for nationals on a semi-regular basis.

Tuscaloosa, Alabama. However, I believe the national bank notes were issued for the two chartered banks there with the original spelling of "Tuskaloosa." For whatever reason, the city later decided to collectively agree to modernize the spelling.

National Bank Notes (Small-Sized):

I've been trying to build a collection of these from Boston (my home town), rather than trying to get examples from every bank. Getting there slowly but surely...

Here are a few of mine. The $20 Gate City, VA is the only $20 known to exist from this bank. There are only 4 known notes total from the same bank; two $5 and two $10.

The Pearisburg note is from a bank with only 10 known small size notes. Interesting fact about this one is the Cashier signature was a woman. Something very uncommon for the time.
