ath459 New Member United States 32 Posts	Posted 10/22/2014 2:51 pm Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone could explain why it is that in almost every box I've broken I find a number of practically uncirculated 1964 D lincoln cents. Was there a high mintage of them? Is it the most commonly broken set? any insight? Report this Post to the Staff

skibdib Pillar of the Community United States 1157 Posts	Posted 10/22/2014 3:08 pm could be that someone dumped a bunch of them in your area. I often notice trends within boxes. For example, a bunch of BU 60s coins. basically a trend that does not exist overall, but localized in some boxes due to a dump. It definitely happens. I could tell in my last boxes of halves that there was a bunch of 94s and 95s that seems to have come from the same source. Not sure where, but a bunch must have been mixed in when they were boxed up. All in the same condition, seemingly from the same source. Report this Post to the Staff

Finn235 Pillar of the Community United States 6130 Posts	Posted 10/23/2014 2:14 pm Production was stepped up because it was assumed/feared that hoarding would occur on a massive scale after the metal content switch in 1965. People hoarded the coins for that exact reason. These coins were probably a hoard that ended up in a coinstar when it was realized that BU memorial cents don't bring much premium. As a cashier, I used to see an occasional surge of BU 1959 cents for the same reason. Report this Post to the Staff
