When stuff like this happens ( on a scale of importance 1-10, less than negative 1) it is the mark of a successful business. It shows they are busy. No need to go "off the rails " on this. Move on and find another like the one you missed out on.

I've experienced a number of problems with Colonial Acres, more than with any other dealer. I've mentioned some of them before on this forum.

Pacificoin, I have bought from you, at your store years ago, at coin shows, and on ebay. Never a problem. Your service ,expertise, and professionalism are second to none. Your defense of these jokers is surprising.

Although infrequently, inventory screw ups happen. Sometimes an item sells over the counter and online inventory is not properly updated or item is misplaced. Dealers are generally in the business of selling coins and certainly not in their best interest to have to send a customer an email stating that they don't have the coin they purchased. Seller deficiencies on ebay for example can erode seller discounts, having to sweeten the pot as a gesture of good faith for a screw-up also erodes profit not to mention just plain reputation. As diligent and customer centric as we all try to be in any business, it's inevitable that the occasional screw-up will occur. It's not about the screw-up it's how you resolve it.

The irony of complaints about CA's inventory is how they leave all the out-of-stock in place on their web site. You have to wade through pages and pages of out of stock to find out what they do have. Who cares about things we can't buy?!

Then again, I have yet to see a coin site that didn't look like the HTML was created by a 16-year old hacker.

Dbm I thank you for your kind comments. I am quite surprised at the comments directed at Colonial Acres though. I can certainly appreciate the difficulties in managing their business, having been involved in the coin business for a long as I have! There are times when things just do not quite go right. Again thanks.

I bought from Colonial Acres one month ago for the very first time through their web site.

After 5 days, I was told that 2 of the items I paid for were sold out and that they will refund me.

After 2 weeks I received the rest of the items (6) with free shipping because of their mistake.

So, it seems that the inventory is a daily issue for them.

Colonial Acres: I ordered from them recently. It takes them up to two weeks to get something shipped. Sometimes I just forget about the purchase and suddenly the mail man shows up with the signature screen. I totally understand their difficulties running their business, and I'm not saying they should ship as quickly as the American Amazon.com. But I do think that the two weeks is too much.
Since I live on the West Coast, J&M is a store I visit every once in a while. They are now a lot more organized than before.
That makes me think of the fact that Colonial Acres just moved to a new location and had a blowout sale. I mean, if they already got rid of lots of loose ends here and there, they should really be a lot more organized than before.

Was in J&M a few days a go for the first time, appears fairly organized lots to choose from and friendly service. It did seem like it needed more light in the showcases, and some price stickers wouldn't hurt, always asking "how much for this ". Was going to buy an unstruck 50 cent planchet..still might go back and get it but spent fifty bucks on the way out the door anyway.

if your not happy with CA just try elsewhere

Me and another person from RFD had a bad experience from J&M Coins regarding the gold Superman coin. Even though we had our names put on a list for the coin were later told the coins will only go to people known by the owners.
That did not seem very fair but I suppose the owner can do what he wants.
