What's holding you back? Seeing your current collection, money seems to not be too much of an object, but if it is, consider your priorities first. It is a beautiful coin that I think would match very well in your collection and you may never get the chance to get another shot at it. Another question, would you be kicking yourself in the behind if you pass this one up? Consider the answer to these questions when considering bidding or not.

@ The Silver Searcher

Thanks. That's a Simpson pedigree too, like the one I'm considering bidding on.

I think Legend Auctions likes it too

@TypeCoin971793

Thanks. For me money is always a consideration but it's not my primary consideration with this coin. I'm leaning towards bidding but getting others thoughts is always helpful. As far as kicking myself for passing, I missed out on another coin I would have loved to have had for this set but the bidding went beyond what I was willing to pay for it. It would have replaced my current 1863 that I consider an add man out coin with my set.

Here's a link to the coin I missed out on, it's PCGS's top pop for 1863.

I'm not kicking myself because I knew I wasn't going to go as high as it ended up going but it sure would have been nice to win on that one.

Now if this 1863 ever shows up at auction, I'm going to be all over it.

It sold at auction back in 2011 for almost double guide price. Whoever purchased it must have submitted hoping for a higher grade because the cert number changed but it's clearly the same coin.

It got the same PR66CA grade however.

Tbone - Imagine you have researched past sales history and know the series rather well.

As with anything, set the limit you will be comfortable with for THIS coin. Yes, it IS stunningly beautiful, there is no doubt about it.

So, go with what you know...

Thanks for the comment. I'm not sure I follow you on the holder upgrade part?

Info says it's housed in a standard holder. I'd upgrade to secure plus
That's an impressive coin worthy of this service and security.

Ah, yes, thank you. Most of my dimes are in secure plus holders. Oddly though they don't always show that on the PCGS cert pages.

Just MHO, but if you like the darker Liberty and lighter background I would consider it a good coin to go for. Your collection is beautiful but for me I would love having that one slightly different coin that is the cherry on top of all the others (assuming this would be the most valuable coin you have, that I am not sure of). But yeah me personally I would like having a coin that is the "King" of my collection that stands out for some reason above the rest, in this case a darker Liberty when the most of your other coins have a lighter liberty. Depends on if you enjoy the darker. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I hate being a voice of reason on this one but if you a questioning it this hard now I would have to back off. the coloring is quite a bit different than you other coins and I understand your hesitation. If you bought it and did not like it then decided to sell it in the near future it could likely as not cost you.

just to say it;
I do not like heavily toned coins or "Monster" toned coins but IF I had the funds I would be standing next to you on that cliff... Do what your heart tells you on this one.

But what do I know?
