1944 P Lincoln Cent, VF. Second of these I've found in recent days. Wonder if some young person got into a parent's coin collection.

It is good to see the old topic still flourishing!! Thanks Gary for reviving it here....I found an extreme weakly struck Ocean in view nickel the other day in change.....there is hardly any detail on the right side of the coin and the handwritten or cursive letters in the word Liberty only have the first 3 letters visible and the motto on the peripheri of the coin only has the letters "IN GOD".....the rest is blank!!.......I dont think it is a strike thru or even a worn die as the detail in the rest of the con is quite good....it seems that it just didnt get a good strike........perhaps a trial strike? Who knows........what ever the case....its going in the 2by two.......heheheh

Its good to see all of you still active here!!.....I am still around....I have been spending my time setting up my own coin related business here and I have also been helping another friend of mine get his own coin business going.......He just opened the doors a few months ago and business has been good!!!......I had been active president in our local coin club until January of this year. I needed to free up some time for other things so I stepped down. I hope all of you are doing well and maybe with all this free time I am going to have I can spend a little more here with you guys!!

For anyone interested, it was Coin Nut who started this type of thread way back on the old Coin World forum. When that forum shut down, I continued it on "Coin Talk," and now on CoinCommunity. It remains one of my favorites, and I think others like it also.

And to think I have just the opposite! The tellers (ladies) at my bank keep asking when I am going to bring them new quarters and new nickels. Whats wrong with that picture?

Hey Rachel, this is really amazing!
On 10-4 Rachel posted that she had found a Chinese coin. Guess what! I think I found exactly the same thing.
I guess it would fall under the category of "Interesting Find From Circulation." I stopped by my favorite little convenience store Monday night. The clerk knows me, and asked if I wanted a coin she had found in the till. I said "sure," and gave her a quarter for it.
So, what is it? Well, sounds like the same thing Rachel found on Oct. 4. Copper color. Smaller than a quarter. Hole in the middle. Plant on one side, maybe rice. Chinese inscriptions in a circle on the other side.
Just a coincidence? Or are these things being passed out around the country?
Anybody else with a similar find?
Mighty strange.
hi I'm new here but thought id let ya know about that coin it is not Chinese but Japanese it is a 5 yen I'm pretty sure they only had that design in the 1950s from the research I did on it from various sites its composition is made up of 60-70% copper and 40-30% zinc websites conflicted on the exact percentage but they were all in that range. and yes it is a ear of rice. I have 2 of them and also 2 cupronickel 50 yen pieces my grandpa gave me. they are very interesting in my opinion because they are so different than the average coin. not worth much but hey its not all about money right? (no pun intended) now about circulation finds in the past month I have found 3-1964 p jfk halfs 2-1967 jfk halfs my first 2006 penny 1-1946 dime 1-1962 dime and 1-1964 dime a 1949 and a 1949 d nickel 3-1964 quarters 1-1963 and a 1962 quarter all BU and slight toning on the lustrous 1963. and 1 1958 wheatie. pretty good if ya ask me the coins on the right are what I'm desribing. the left is the 50 yen the right is 5 yen. is this the same coin? chuck

My brother got a fiji 20c piece dated 1980 from a coke machine today and gave it to me. This is the first time I have seen a fiji coin, plenty of Kiwis and Papuans though.

Went to the bank today.. picked up 10 rolls of pennies to satisfy the latter-day boredom. Going through them has produced some pretty neat finds. I've gotten a couple of 2005 (have to be) cameo proofs.. Just a little marking on them. The best so far has been an AU 1958-D Wheat. The reverse of this coin is very nice. But by far, the best find of today was at Barnes & Noble: looking through various numismatic books, I came across one on the complete Lincoln Cent 1909-date. Pulled it off the rack & saw the author's name, just about flipped. But then, go figure, the guy knows EVERYTHING about Lincolns. Thanks coppercoins!! Great Book!
