i'll get a picture posted of this in the next day or so; I found a 2014-S everglades quarter in my pocket change tonight, pretty sure I received it at the convenience store down the street late wednesday. ehh, I didn't know they made S-mint ATB Quarters for circulation. this is the first time I've seen one

Cool find, yes starting in 2012 they made them for circulation.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ameri...tage_figures
However these quarters were produced for numismatic or collector sale, they will not be released into circulation for use in daily commerce like pennies, nickels, dimes and other quarters. They will only be available from and sold by the United States Mint. So finding them in change likely is from someone later dumping them into circulation. http://www.parkquarters.com/quarter...arters/10957

They were first struck in 2012 and have been produced ever since, carrying over into the Women quarters, but not the Crossing the Delaware for some odd reason. They are sold in bags (much like 2002 to present halves are) and sold at a premium over face, and are not included in mint sets.

after I posted in the wee hours I went to the US Modern boards and searched '2014-S everglades quarter' and found some stuff to read.

happy to say that my eyes can still differentiate between mintmarks without my glasses. of course I had to put them on & get the magnifier to see it better in order to answer the question-- 'am I really seeing an S on this coin?'

.....yep!

It feels weird seeing an S mintmark on a coin. I've gotten used to P and D that S seems foreign.

Most come across them from proof sets initially with the coins in great condition, but its interesting that they made some circulation strikes but only offered them at the mint like they do the half dollars.

At 1,139,140 of those you can probably pick them up at low prices in high grade conditions ungraded, but finding them on a whim in change where it wasnt circulated is again a cool find.

I had mentioned before that I picked up a a Carson 5X MiniBrite LED Lighted Slide-Out Aspheric Magnifier for around $13 which was excellent for general use just to enlarge/read dates and mint marks or years on currency etc easier than a loupe since its lighted or scope to id coins just to see if you then need to look more deeply) and can also be used to enlarge small text on anything which is generally handy. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00524H8MC Its also not as easily breakable. Its not used for grading with the led but I grab it more times than I can count vs the others just for enlarging text rather than grading or close inspection.

Obviously if your grading or need a more professional better look the led can mislead you so thats where a Bausch & Lomb Hastings Triplet 7x Magnifier - Model 816168 would be my preference. Cheaper ones work but there are differences that are easier to spot with this one. After that you get more into scopes, clip on macro lens and expensive magnifiers which may be for serious collectors but not the typical person.

What are the odds? I can't remember the last time I found a 2009 quarter, assembling the set has to be pretty much impossible unless you hunt enough quarter boxes or buy the mint sets.

I went through a few days of change and found this. I don't know if they're common or not but I can't remember the last time I got one.
