I ordered 6 packs when they first released, and received them within a week. Checked the mail today, and they resent me the same order. Got 12x 5-packs for the price of 6, w/ free shipping. But I don't feel bad, because in the end, the RCM still made a healthy margin, even when they make mistakes. Haven't found one in change yet though.

I've had several in my change while shopping here in Ottawa. Maybe I should start keeping them.

I think once the public get hold of them everybody is going to keep them will be interesting to see how many stay in circulation.

I was able to get two rolls from RBC when they first came out and got 7 in my change the first week. One only since then, I think they were scooped up pretty fast. I think its a real nice looking coin.

congrats on being a pillar of the community now, Lyra it's a great accomplishment 500 posts. Watch how they rack up now. It seems to take so long to get to 250 so you can do trades! However after 500, it just seems to fly!! I look forward to reading more from you.

Denny 7000, nice score on the two rolls!! I was talking with a forum member about getting some straight from the Winnipeg mint. Then I got busy and forgot about it, until reading this post today. I hope you enjoy the forum: there's tons of great information and super knowledgable and friendly collectors here. I look forward to reading your thoughts on things.

Thanks PC50, I have a real nice guy who gets me stuff from RBC when he comes across different looking coins and bills. He sold me some rolls of those arctic explorer/ whale quarters too. Its nice to have good bank connections. My father wishes he had internet resources like this when he started collecting in his teens.

I've yet to find one in change, and I tried to buy mint rolls from the banks around here, but the tellers here don't speak English and they don't understand what I mean by mint rolls ...but that's another grievance for another forum. At least I got my extra 5-packs though, courtesy of the RCM.

My friend at RBC said their branch only got 2 boxes of the toonie with written instructions of what date to give them out, I just happened to show up the right day. Other banks like TD and Scotia told me to try RBC as they didnt get any. Maybe I should have bought more, doh!

Like I said its a real nice looking coin and was well advertised on tv. Plus the picture originated here in New Westminster so there is the local connection.

I guess I have an unfair advantage, but I've seen dozens in change working a cash register. I agree that people have saved them from early on. For comparison's sake, I don't see the HMS Shannon coins very often anymore, and older loonie/toonie commemoratives are not as common as I expected.

yes it is odd, you would think it would be too tempting to hold on to a toonie, thats a conversion of two tim hortons coffees!
