@ Buymyemu, I understand, bargain hunting is a fine sport, that's why I was happy to get this set last night for $189CAD (free shipping, no tax).

@ Looney4Numi aside from LCC's good sales from time to time, I really like how their website is organized. Very easy to find what one is looking for, very well designed.

I agree. LCC is well designed, and they do have excellent surprise sales once in a while.
I enjoy going to their site...almost every day. lol

The former owner of LCC, Bill Merkeley, was always a pleasure to deal with when I lived in London, Ontario. Back in the 90s, I always got the RCM new issues at a 10% discount from Mint issue prices, and he always had lots a nice items where he gave me very reasonable and fair prices (almost near dealer prices on tons of good stuff). Without Bill, my collection would not be where it is today. From what I hear, he is in the store some days, but will eventually be gone.

Slow season is coming...people rather will spend money on the cold beer than on the coins, here in hot Southern Ontario. Not RCM, neither Perth (with it's "Thor and his friends") bother people much. So, Colonial Acres will have soon huge auction of the RCM and other coins, where we will see, what is the real price that collectors ready to pay. 3 days remain. Added: Just logged in to the auction page....might be I missunderstood something, navigated to iCollector site, and the start prices arent the same , promissed by CA (50% and lower). Hmmmm...

The CA site promises "All items start at 50% or less of the Estimate" with "Estimate" being the key word. They haven't claimed 50% of original issue price, but rather 50% of what they are estimating the hammer price will be for each auction lot. Of course, they are in complete control of their "estimates."

The only problem with buying at this auction is you need a hammer price of 50% of ebay to get it at nearly the same cost. Most ebay sellers are not charging tax. No 15% fees Reasonable shipping costs. Last time I bought from this auction house at a 50% lower price I only saved a couple dollars from a buy it now price on ebay.

I agree, auction buys with all the add-ons can get pricey. A couple of months ago CA's icollector auction items also appeared simultaneously as an ebay.ca auction but with the premium added to the ebay price. ebay and icollector bids then competed toward the final selling price, closing at the same time. I only noticed it after what initially appeared to be two different items up for auction at the same time. I don't know if they do it that way every time but I much prefer ebay.

I just looked it up to refresh my memory, Pakmail charged me $30 to ship my last auction purchase :-( It might be different if your spending thousands but for anyone only looking at a few hundred dollars worth of coins ....Don't bother! I just noticed the fees are 18% this time? I'm sure it was 15% last time.

There are a lot of erroneous statements regarding Colonial Acres auctions. 1. There is no added taxes for NCLT coins that are pure silver or gold. However there is for decimal coins (ie. circulating coins) and banknotes. 2. 18% is tacked on for PayPal and Credit Cards but is still 15% if payment is done by debit or e-transfers. 3. Shipping is reasonable because it is through Canada Post, not Pakmail. Pakmail is used by a lot of icollector auctions, but not Colonial Acres. 4.For popular coins like the Pysanka and the Big Loonies, final prices are equivalent to what you see on ebay. But for the vast majority of coins, final prices are way lower than ebay even with the 15% add on. 5.Most ebay sales include shipping cost too, whether it is separate or included in the price. 6. Forget the auction estimates, they are never right. You need to look at starting prices and they are usually start low, starting prices range from 30 to 50% of issue.. Some auctions don't even get any bids despite low starting bids.

Agreed, CA does not use Pakmail to ship their icollector auction items, nor do some other dealers, for example South Edmonton Coin. The store ships their sold items and the cost is quite reasonable. similar to ordering from their website. On the other hand Auction Network uses Pakmail and be prepared to pay as much as $35 postage for one single small coin.
