It sure looks impressive when all of the 1971- date specimen and proof dollars are all shown together. You sort of forget how beautiful and historical a lot of these coins are .

I am having a great time collecting the commemorative dollars
from '71-present @Pacificoin. So many to choose
from, and you can bargain hunt as the mintages were high in
the early years. It is an impressive collection indeed shown
together. Fun to look at, lots of history lessons.

To my surprise I received a delivery from Canada Post today,
Sunday with these two beauties.

Filling out my last remaining 80's commemorative coins,
1981 finally and one from 1972, have a look at the toning
on the 1972.

@SilverDon: Thanks for sharing your ongoing SD acquisitions!

Yes, the RCM's "open air" packaging for the early years of the NCLT silver dollars allowed many of the coins to take on colourful toning. The toned coins I've seen have run the gamut from very attractive to unappealing. It looks like you found yourself a nice one. Enjoy!

Thanks for the encouragement Commems. I really
did get lucky with that toned 1972 dollar. When I opened the
clamshell from the 1970's you get the aroma of the musty
package, like an old arena or church, and the browned cardboard just
gives it a bit of history. The red flecks of hair everywhere
from the felt. No airtite and actually touching the coin
(with gloves of course). This is one of my favorite coins, an
inexpensive pleasure. Here is another shot.
