Just picked up one of these for $209 U.S. According to my calculations it contains 5.75g of 22k gold so melt vale as of today is around $204 U.S. Seems like a decent bargain to me.

Original issue $299.95 - mintage 5,000.

I only need to get the 1999 and 2000 gold versions and my $2 collection will be complete.

The price was it in USD? It sucks that the Canadian dollar is lagging so bad. Especially when making purchases. My kid wants a video card for his gaming computer, it's $330 USD. I may have a $100 USD from ebay sales.

I feel bad for my Canuck buyers, so if they read my ads, it says I will bill in equivalent CAD saving them the 2.5% conversion fee. Now that I'll have extra listings I can run some ads in CAD.

Those gold toonies are stunning, one day I hope to be able to get either 1999 or 2000. I wasn't aware of the 1996 edition. It seems some select older coins still hold their own value wise. It's interesting that the RCM was wise enough to make certain coins only 5,000 Mintage. Today they've lost their way badly!!
An awesome score for sure.

Very nice coin and a great price.

Per Charlton, the coin has .185oz of pure gold. At today's spot of about 1200USD that's about $222USD

I've made it a point in the last year to try to get RCM commemorative gold coins into the hands of collectors, as opposed to the smelter. It seems like such a crying shame that people don't pick up these items that are great deals compared to issue prices. It can't be helped for pieces like the Montreal Olympic golds, but others years that no longer come around much anymore are nice finds.

Gold coins of less than 22k are notoriously hard to get rid of, and hold virtually no premium. Stay away.

Yet we have have the gold superman at 14k gold selling for 3 times issue price... go figure.

Ya ya its that suppy and demand thing , just thought it was funny how a 14k coin out values 22k heck even 24k coins.

Tomasz, I had no idea that you have been here since 2009!! Although, I do remember seeing your advertisement in the banner at the top of the page...

It is always nice to see a coin dealer participate in active discussions with collectors.

cheers, Roger
