what on earth is the vertical mark below the ear? Not in my (older) Snow guide.

Okay, so this may be kind of a random guess... but could this coin have been used as a button? If you look at the lock of hair in front of the ear, you can see what may have been a broken mount point. And this little worm kinda looks like a solder point or something.

Otherwise, I've got nothing! Never seen anything like it...

It's a documented IHC variety--the Snow-8

Is there a rarity level for this Snow 8? Since it is not in the first Snow attribution guide is it a recent discovery?

My Snow doesn't list it either.
Does Snow price appendices or additional pages to his guide?
I'm not going to buy a completely new set.

In Snow's 2nd edition it is given a 1 star, but in his latest ed.(3rd) he gives it a 2 star rating. I received the 2nd ed. in 2011 so that variety had to be recognized before then.

it IS a variety, I thought it looked familiar, but thought it was a different date. Anyhow, $55 is a bit steep for this coin.
