Update:

My friend submitted the coin to ANACS via the Westford Mass coin show as ANACS was on site accepting submissions. It is due to ship back to him on Jan 19th.

coin is graded F-12, authentic. he told me it says "double struck in collar" on his order status page. we don't know what it says on the slab,as the images are not uploaded on ANACS site yet. I will have photo's when he gets it and brings it over to show me.

I am wondering if it will say double stuck both sides? or is "double struck in collar" suffice?

Double struck in collar would be an accurate definition for this coin, you cant really have a double strike without it affecting both sides.

Great find by the way!

and hope they emphasize the rotation as well. If not then no worries as its clearly visible. Thanks, Doug.

Nice coin perfect specimen. Would love to have found that. I was trying to find information on something similar to that and didn't find any varieties like that especially no v.d.b I would have it slabbed. Looks like a high grade and it's not what I would consider a common error. How did he find that? Roll searching ?

@ tweak800, he is an old timer like me and he bought a collection of what he thought were minor errors about 30 years ago. He recently took the time to go through them and found this error.

Photo's coming soon. ship date is 1/19 from ANACS

@ Coop, No they did not indicate any value. My friend has tried to find something similar and has come up empty.

I was hoping someone here might have an idea of it's value. we both have no clue.

Now that it is authenticated and graded, next step would be an approximate value or finding something similar that has sold.

Any Ideas?

This is one of those coins that all you need are two bidders that really want it.

A one year type coin with a major error is a HUGE auction item.

Your friend should do well if he decides to part with it.

Yeah at auction this could go for pretty big money, I would say at least a few thousand would be accurate though
