Microscopes have fixed optical systems and adjust focus by moving the subject up or down, or sometimes moving the whole optical path up or down. Some folks have modified their microscopes to have the focus wheel driven by a stepper motor, with the stepper motor controlled by software. Others use a linear stage like a StackShot and mount the subject on it, with software controlling the stage position and thus focus. I want to have clear focus of a mint mark which fills the screen. I currently have a cheap scope - thought I would try that first. DVCollector Bedrock of the Community United States 10045 Posts	Posted 12/06/2014 8:52 pm Are you looking for finer focus adjustment? I bought myself a used medical lab scope. They will have coarse/fine focus wheels. Then I dropped in this Celeston microscope imager into one of the objective tubes (mine is stereo). I have an old postal scale from the 50s and decided to try that. It helped! Moving the arm of the scale with one hand makes the adjustment and holds it steady easily.
