I would expect some crazy dimes to come out in 2016 for 70th anniversary
Why, what is so special about 70th? Why not something for the 60th? I would not expect anything until the 100th.

jbuck, FDR's Executive Order 6102 of April 1933 and the subsequent Gold Reserve Act of January 1934 eventually led to... the inevitable path to our present Cu-Ni Clad circulating coins.
Ah, gotcha!

My understanding from speaking with a Mint rep months ago is that the driver behind these sets is the silver version of the Presidential medal... The medals of the Presidents series have never before been available in silver.
I really like the silver medal in the Theodore Roosevelt C&C set. I really want them to make an Eisenhower C&C set because I really want a silver Eisenhower medal.

The stamps will definitely be originals, no reprints for sure.

This set is for those 'nostalgic' ones among us. There is nothing in it that would interest a flipper - which is good for a change. And I think the mint anticipated that by stating a maximum quantity of 20k for the set.

For want of a better term, the contents seem random, not special. What do we have lying around related to FDR for some kind of special set.

This begs the question then....where were 20,000 of each stamp just laying about for the last 59 years?

The printings were between 67 and 134 million each...

Post from Bobby with a better photo of the set...

Looks like it uses the same black capsule holders they used in the Silver Kennedy set. I hope these are not as tight.

No Kidding on how tight they were. I almost lost finger nails and skin trying to get them out.

This set has nothing for me...
As someone who understands how much damage, yes damage, FDR did
to this nation, the set isn't for me.

As a coin collector, I may have been interested, but the clad coinage
& the medals (Seriously, medals making up the only precious metal in a
a COIN set?) in the set are useless IMO to a serious coin collector.

As a stamp collector, I know all to well how worthless those stamps are.
I use them as postage! They are hard to sell for more than face value
unless you find a sucker. In bulk, they sell for less than face because
the buyer is going to use them as postage, and the trouble of putting so
many on an envelope to make modern postage makes the buyer want them at
a discount, to pay for the trouble.

The mint is trying to hit home runs all over to make some revenue and
build excitement in it's customers, but they can't win them all...

Another marketing opportunity for the collector to get really exited about :'Don't miss out!!'

Ho hum.

I have had a lifetime love for numismatics. This is not one of the reasons.

Well, I ordered the set. I really love the Theodore Roosevelt set I bought last year and look forward to the Eisenhower and Kennedy sets next year.

I mentioned it in the linked post, but I need to stress how happy I am that the capsules are more easily removed from the holders than they are in the Kennedy Silver set.

Wasn't interested in this series, but got to thinking these Presidents were during my time. I was born a bit before Truman's second term.

Picked up an FDR set from ebay for $56.95 with free shipping; $5.95 cheaper than ordering from the Mint. Guess I'm suckered in for the rest of the series.
