So you know how frustrating it is when you find a banknote, look at the serial, and find that it's only one digit away, or a digit needs to be swapped, from being a fancy serial! Post your near-fancy finds here!

Here's a couple of mine:

Thanks for making this thread! Now I can post my 'so close' finds without feeling dumb!

I got a $10 bird note from my cash register yesterday: 6244261

I have seen a LOT of "so close" bills, many of which I've tossed back into circulation. Here are the most memorable ones:
2424216
0680086 (almost repeater)
1133133 (also almost a repeater)
7377727
5777777
Also, a $5 polymer that was 942 numbers short of a sheet replacement
And possibly the worst:
6663667

I have a polymer 20$ 0070000. I can afford to keep this but I may spend it on other coins someday.

Mine was a mint $5 "5454554". Had to sell it. It bugged me too much to look at it! On the other hand, I had the "5454545" to go with it, so I sold them as a pair...

Yesterday I had a chance to look through many bills. I had to take $3000 out of my account and deposit it into another bank, in addition to checking at work. I found several that were one digit off: 7040702, 3466743, 2061208, 6159519, 4445477. There was also one that was one number too high of being a radar but I forgot what the numbers were.
I still have yet to find a repeater. I will keep looking.

Good luck in your search Shoeplier, it took me a couple of months to find one!

This one isn't Canadian. I pulled these from a new brick (and replaced them, they're not my bricks but my mom's), thought they would be nice together... just need to slip a "1" in the front of the numbers and radar!

This one's a 1988 with loads of folds: FHB6212216

I almost forgot about this 2009 US $1 I have: K36903960J

That's close, you just need 8 as the last number instead of 6.

Appreciate the insight SlurExe97!

Do note collectors place any additional value on such serial numbers?

For me when I collect notes I try to pick up a few from each series and of each denomination.... For the most current issues.. I would prefer that they be either repeaters/radars..... Some will pay a premium for those...but "one offs" I don't believe there would be any premium over face. Just interesting to have in the collection until u find the real deal I suppose

This thread is just to showcase our "so close" finds. It can be frustrating if you find a "so close" one if one number changed or two numbers swapped will make it a fancy serial

I never bothered to check some of my Indonesian notes for fancy serials until now and I found these two.

Apparently I already had a repeater. Just for good measure, I found three this week. One was ripped and taped so I left it alone. Took out some more $10s to deposit into my other bank. Still no Macklem/Poloz notes. However, I was saddened to find a couple 'so close' ones: 2656541 (21 short of a radar) and 7667627.
