If I could have been a fly on the wall (and assuming what was portrayed in the episode was real) I think Rick paid the price he did because he initially wanted to keep it, but the Old Man, when he saw how much Rick paid, forced him to sell it. Just my gut feeling of how this panned out behind the scenes. Rick was just too anxious and excited about it to be buying it just to flip. He ran to a price he knew the guy would take too fast, as he didn't want it to walk.

Did you see that they recently auctioned off some fake sports memorabilia claiming it was authentic? After dealing in that fake item, I don't think I'd want anything collector based having to do with them. http://haulsofshame.com/blog/?p=35202

Surely this show is just staged and scripted ? Does make for great advertising for the Pawn Shop.

Of course it's staged and scripted! They are even "auditioning" for the show at the FUN Show next week.
To keep interest in the show at a high level, unusual high dollar items need to "walk through that door". They are at the point that they have to find stuff now as the run of the mill pawn shop items won't work anymore.
If this show is still producing new episodes in two years I'll be amazed.

If you notice, the store is always packed with people (anyone who's been there can testify to this) but when people come in on the show...they are the only ones in the shop.

Quote: did anybody else notice this is not just the Gold and Silver Pawn label but the special on air collection? not only are you getting the air quote prestige label end quote but your piece has been on television. Like OMG that is going to like double the value.... Okay, honestly now, wouldn't adding some fame and provenance to the coin genuinely increase the value? I mean half of hollywood memorabilia is only famous because it was on the big screen and used by actors. This coin is famous AND it is genuinely valuable anyway. Not saying Pawn Stars is on this level, but imagine if you had Frank Sinatra's lucky Barber quarter or something. It certainly wouldn't sell for numismedia FMV scale.

They have their own label and designation? At this point, why don't they just let everyone upload their own graphic when the submit coins.

There are what? Six to eight high relief Matte Proofs? While auction records are helpfull, it is a sellers market.
I own an item with a pop of 11. Mine is the lowest graded. It's auction value is between $300 and $400; based on the last known sale ( which was my example).
Of the 11 known examples 8 are in static collections that will not be coming up for sale any time soon. This leaves only 3 possible, out of 11, that could reasonably come up for auction.
I have standing offers from more than one collector for my item starting at $1200.
Auction records are very helpfull, but are not always the be all and end all in valuing an item.

I wouldn't worry about the bid yet. This one is at the FUN Signature Auction, and the person who actually buys it (or their rep) will be bidding that night. I bet it hammers in the black, but nobody's attending college on the profit.

So it would have to sell for more than 92K for a profit to be made? If I'm not mistaken, the Heritage seller commission on coins is 15% right?
