the Heritage seller commission on coins is 15% right?

Heritage and other big auction companies routinely drop their commissions to secure high end coins that will highlight in an auction and guarantee more interest in the other lots. I could see Heritage doing that to secure a coin like this, especially if they get some advertising on the Pawn Stars TV show and at FUN off of having it.

The seller's commission is, I believe, normally only 5%. The buyer's premium is 17.5% on coins (different venues, e.g. fine art, charge different amounts).

Best Regards,

George

Sellers commission can be negotiated with HA. I have sold items through them with zero commission. I have also heard of sellers who have received over 100% of the hammer price.

I'd buy it, but the New York State sales tax would be a killer

That's the Internet part of the auction, which means nothing. The live auction is Platinum Night tomorrow, when the coin actually hits the block and the real bidders come out.

Oh. I didn't realize that, SD. Thanks for clarifying.

Yeah, Heritage is kind of deceptive with that stuff; their pre-Live Internet auctions are basically advertising.

If I were to win that coin (which I am in no position to even bid on) the first thing I would do is immediately go over to the NGC table at the show to get it reholdered and get that Pawn Shop label off it

Same here. The Pawn Stars label cheapens the presentation, IMO. The original label was much better.

The entire show is a waste.

Rick's idiotic laugh is annoying.
His "history' lessons are only for 1st graders.

And the others are just ignorant.

I must admit, coming from a very closely related industry as my career, I find him and the show rather endearing and pretty straight forward. His rationale for how he prices offers and the offers he makes are very legitimate. If you know the history of the pawn industry their motto is "2 for 1" and this bears out that if they pay more than half something is worth, it is better for them to keep their cash and loan it to someone than to tie it up in merchandise.

That assumption is where I got my hunch that Rick bought this coin with every intention of keeping it for himself or as a gift for the "Old Man".

The only thing I have never been able to fact search is this...they NEVER deal with or have in the store any modern firearms...just antiques (which are not considered firearms by the BATFE if it was manufactured on or before Dec 31 1898) which leads me to believe that at least one of the licensed owners of Gold and Silver Pawn are convicted felons. No proof, just a hunch

Looks like Rick is going to make money on the sale of this coin.......never underestimate the gullibility of people. Clearly, they are buying that idiotic holder and not the coin.

I personally put the real-world value of this coin at around $100k.
