Not a expert, but they look like they are made out of some sort of copper alloy from the color.

A guy in Germany lists several $2 items to build up feedback and then lists a lot of 7 one ounce gold coins BIN at way below market value?
Do you REALLY think the listing is legit? I don't.

Oh...I am almost 100% sure they are fake. Gold is $1175/oz. I bet the guy can walk into any coin shop or gold/silver shop and get more cash instantly. I just wanted some opinions on the forum.

Most likely, if you ASQ'd the Seller and told him "you only had 6000$ but you'd gladly offer him that amount" he would be more than happy to create a "special" BIN listing just for you.
Could the coins be legit? They might be, but it is not worth the risk to find out.

I would echo the sentiment of the others - when an auction is priced like this it can not be real. The coins in the picture may be real but you will not receive anything if you bite. This is one of the oldest scams on ebay. |

So here is how I found the buyer. I have been in the market for a Rolex Submariner. They had one up for $6,000 BIN, ton of pics, including box and papers. Papers show it purchased in Italy. Not unusual, Italy is close to Germany. I emailed the buyer late US time and then yesterday morning I see the listing was taken down. I email the person and say "Hey I am serious buyer...let me know if you still have the watch for sale." They offer it to me for $6,000 BIN or $5,600 paypal. I asked when they bought it (warranty) and if they have the receipt. They say 2014 and yes. I replied..."send me a copy of the receipt and I will take it for $5,600 via paypal." Never hear back. Now they have the Krugerrands listed. Not sure how they would get away with sending nothing, though. ebay, Paypal, and my credit card would offer protection. |

The people involved in this scam - disappear. They either close their accounts or more likely they never owned the bank account linked to the PayPal account. You get your money back but the seller gets away with the money as well.
Anyone bidding on these auctions is supporting the forgery ring.

Sellers with low or zero feedback, suddenly selling high dollar items are a huge red flag scam.

The weight is an easy test with these; that is, until you come up against a fake with a tungsten core. In this case, they need to be tested with ultrasound, XRay, magnetic resonance or stereoscopic comparison alongside a genuine example.
Nevertheless, the thought has crossed my mind that they could indeed be genuine. The catch? They could be stolen!

sel_69l you make a good point. I definitely don't want to be involved in buying stolen merchandise. With the gold coins there is no way of knowing if it's stolen. On the watch, the owner could report the serial number to Rolex. When Rolex gets the watch in they will confiscate it. I would never buy a pre-owned Rolex w/o having the Dallas service center do an "insurance appraisal."

Even it was stolen he could sale it to a coin shop for more than what he's asking. There's no way to tell really.

Not sure if anyone caught this but it seems that this person wants the coins (and watch) to go the US. The watch (taken down) and the gold are both in English and US dollars.

Actually, I would never bother with Rolex watches.
They stopped making quartz watches in 2002 after a period of about 30 years, and went back to exclusive manufacture of mechanical watches.
Generally speaking even the cheapest of quartz watches are more accurate the the best of the mechanical ones.
Your time function in your mobile 'phone is far more accurate than the very best quartz watch; they have to rely atomic clock accuracy.
