I just wanted to say thanks to this forum for teaching me how to RCH properly! I am a nickel freak and since discovering this forum, I have found 2 hole fillers in my collection. The 1944-d and 1938-s. I am still waiting for that last one, the elusive 1939-d.

BTW: I get a little excited every time I see that 1938, 1939 appear in my searches. The 1939 comes up quite often, but I always gives me hope that a 1939-d is out there. The 1938 date comes up less frequently, and the last one I found --it was shocking that the thing had an S mintmark on it.

Anyway. Thanks all for enabling me to do CRH the right way.

(WAY) back in the day when I looked at every nickel I saved all of the 1939s.
Ended up with quite a few.
But my favorite (secret pleasure) was identifying a 1939-D which my father saw as a 1959-D.
Today, now that MY eyes have grown tired, I can appreciate his mistake.

Oh, did you ever find a 1950-D in circulation?

The roll hunters are a vocal and enthusiastic group within our family and you will certainly find many kindred spitits.

Yes. I have found a 1950-d in circulation. I was only buying 5 rolls at a time for hunting and somehow I found it. Granted I started that 10 years ago. It's a pleasure whenever I see a 1950, hoping that it will have that D mintmark.

I recently found my second 1955 as well. I remember that 1955 was a tough date for me.

I used to look at each nickel under magnification, looking for double dies, overdates, and RPMs. Then I realized that I just don't have the eye for it. I saved many of what appeared as 1999-p/p's before I read somewhere that it's not a RPM or double die, but the result of the die wearing down. I stopped after realizing that there were more p/p's than were worth saving. I must have a whole jar of them.
