This medal/token (?), came to my hands through my grandfather, it seems to be quite old and one can hardly read on it "best quality". Does anyone know what it is? it seems like gold but I am not sure.  |

 Can't really help much. But what is the weight? And the diameter? Maybe there was an attachment in the centre and it was some sort of button. |

what are the measurements & weight?
I blew the picture up and only make out the letters ot or st and the word quality.

the diameter is 2,3cm or 0.90 in, about the weight I don't know but I will know by tomorrow. Apart from the "best quality" I can't make it out what it says in the quadrant between 12 and 3 o'clock..

My first thought was button, until I saw where the loop would have been, it would not make sense. But if it is medieval, did they have looped buttons, or ones with holes in them?

Tossing out a different theory: Maybe a decorative seal on an old bottle of brandy or whiskey? These used to be used to hold a ribbon in place over the cork or stopper, and are still present in (mostly) decorative form today:  |

No, it's a button. As soon as I saw it I recalled this old thread here on CCF where another old button with a "Best Quality" backmark was posted. Unfortunately, the personal webpage the OP there linked to is now defunct, so you can't see pics to compare. And it will be made of brass, not gold. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Nelson, about the weight, it is 5 gr. You guys are very helpful, I think I have to agree with medieval, ace and sap, it seems like to be a button but from which era? and why there isn't any kind of engraving in the front part? OK it is not in good condition, but I think something should be visible in the front if we assume it is indeed a button. The theory of Finn is also very interesting.

These buttons are made in two parts (see the link Medieval posted earlier) - the front of this one has been lost - so we're just left with the back.

I have a small collection of RAF uniform buttons dating back to the 30's, and it reminds me of part of one of those.
Some of the buttons in my collection have a domed embossed front, whith its edge folded around a back part. On the back are logos indicating makers etc.

Well guys you are all incredible, it makes sense cause my grandfather found this near a place which was actually on the 1st WW front of Macedonia,(i mean the real one in Greece). In fact near this place there is a British military cemetery for the soldiers lost in this front. So I suppose this comes from a uniform of a British soldier...
