I really am amazed by all the gold and silver coins being posted. That 1783 Ducat is crazy cool  I have been trying for years to better my collection, but when I see coins like that I think about how far I have to go ... to have a really good collection. -------------------------------------------------- I will have to sort through my collection .. But I think I am running low on older coins to post. Edited by GR58

Me too. The history behind it is the most attractive aspect of shipwreck coins, in my opinion. This was actually a Christmas present from my parents when I was 8 or 9, already encapsulated.

Numisma That is a nice looking El Cazador.
I wish mine was a 8R. Most of the ones I see have a
lot of damage, from being in the water so long.

Thanks a lot, but it can't beat most (or any) of jgenn's pieces.
Recently I have been developing an interest in Spanish colonials, partially because of this thread. There's just something appealing about these. I guess I like the fact that they were produced in so many denominations, for so many years, by so many kings, at so many mints; and most silver pieces are fairly affordable.

It looks like 1783 was another great year for this thread. I think the 8 escudos is one of the highlights of the whole thread (so far).
