@giedrius, you have been posting a really great run of Lithuanian half-groschen, but I wonder if we might swim across Lake Galadus occasionally. To that end, here is a half-groschen of Poland also dated 1511 AD. The attribution is Kopicki 413.

@Spence,my Lithuanian half-groats will end very soon - February of 1509 is the earliest date we have the written resources about the coinage of the Lithuanian half-groats by Sigismund the Old. Yes,there are three pieces of 1508 known, but these seems like counterfeits or patterns. Sigismund the Old was Grand Duke Lithuanian and Polish king, so we can find Polish and Lithuanian half-groats with his name (Polish and Lithuanian monetary systems were absolutely different at this time ).

Quote: Polish and Lithuanian monetary systems were absolutely different at this time I agree! It is striking to me that the shape of some letters is even different between these two parts of his kingdom from coins minted in the same year.

„ Lithuanian half-groats penetrated the Polish market since their value was 20 per cent higher than of the Polish ones. This aroused dissatisfaction among the Polish nobility. At the Piotrków Congress in 1501, Polish representatives for the first time demanded to equal Lithuanian and Polish coins in weight and value, as Lithuanian coins were by a fifth more valuable than Polish. The Act of Mielnik, signed in that same year, provided for common money, but the Lithuanian Seimas did not approve this Act." ( http://www.pinigumuziejus.lt/wp-con...atalogas.pdf )

There are last my Lithuanian dated coins, half-groats of 1509, first year of mintage by the rule of Sigismund the Old. Rare type of Knight (with scabbard), inverted E in MONETA and two different reverses.

Quote: I hope we can keep moving along. You betcha! Here is another half groschen from Poland. This one is dated 1508 AD and is attributed as Kopicki 408. I really like how the number 8 looks like two links of a chain.
