Lots of nice coins, Other than Byzantine I really don't have many medieval coins. Makes me want to start looking for more now.

Ticking over to the 1561-1570 decade. Rather than showing a very worn English Threepence, let's start with another Hungarian ruler: Denar 1562 KB from Ferdinand I, King of Hungary (also Holy Roman Emperor later in life), minted in Kremnica

Little late to the party..sorry. I'll try to follow Medieval's date order as he posts it. This was a phone camera and bad lighting but, I was late to work and wanted to get this one in. 1576 Hungary Denar. [/URL]

Better posting a coin too late than jumping ahead. Plenty enjoy seeing a diversity of coins. Thanks for posting it.

I'm afraid my selection of coins from the 1560s is rather limited. Here's another Elizabeth I sixpence - 1565 - that I bought for £1 in 1972 - it was my first hammered coin!

That's still way better than the 1564 Threepence, I am holding for the HFBCWG second edition. Nothing else for this decade left from me. But the important thing is just to get one coin, so that we can progress. In a week's time or so it will start to get a little more difficult, hope we don't get stuck.

This coin was given to me last year ... I thought I had taken some pictures of it ... but can't find them. Here are the pictures my friend took.

Off to the 1551-1560 decade. This is an undated Liard minted in Antwerp for the Duchy of Brabant (now part of Belgium, then part of the Spanish Netherlands) This coin was minted during the reign of Philip II of Spain which started in 1556, ie this decade. But since his reign lasted until 1598, this coin does not qualify to settle this decade for good. There will be others, I am sure.

Quote: This might get reposted later on once we hit that date in the other thread. Guess that holds true for quite a few coins shown here, including: AR Pul dated AH960 (ie 27/12/1552-15/12/1553) by (the Sefavid) Shah Tahmasp I ibn Isma'il, who had a long reign spanning 1524 to 1576. The coin is a brockage but style, date and weight (~1.15g) made it easy to attribute - it meets the 2,400 Nokhod standard then in place in Persia.

This one is a contemporary counterfeit, I think the true coin is silver - France gros of six blancs - single year type 1550 at Nesle, mine is brass with a silver wash, so I'm guessing it fits 1551-60
