Yes, RCM went this time with the model of the subscriptions only, while single coins all have been sold to the dealers. I waited with patience couple of days to see the "Nickel Tribute" first coin available at RCM, and after it ordered via dealer.

I whole heartedly agree, when buying a sub, the coins should come in clamshell and outer box. The RCM has been doing some nice cover art on there boxes. When this is done, I find the entire package desirable for display. They don't discount the coin because it ships in a die cut. This way the case would truly be an added value bonus. It's a kick in the teeth when there's no clamshell and the bonus case is cardboard. A cardboard case there's no guarantee how long they will last when displayed. It's also discouraging to buy at issue and then months later find the coin at a great discount. If it keeps happening over and over, a person learns to wait. It's the fool me once principle. There's few people that aren't concerned with getting value for their purchasing power. Cost of living is always going up and wages aren't. Why should the mint be the one to squeeze every last cent out of a coin. I'd be more likely to purchase, if I knew when an emergency arrived, I could sell my coins and not lose 15% or more even. This includes having people that even want them. Yrs ago this was mainly possible, because the Nclt wasn't over saturated and the pricing was more realistic. Now the mints charge their direct customers high prices, while giving dealers huge discounts. It's dealers faced with too much inventory, forced to offer discounts to move inventory, have started the ball rolling on big secondary price drops. The dealer had no other choice faced with too much in inventory, he needs to move it somehow. Lets face it everyone feelings good when they purchase at a discounted price. It also means they have money left over to buy more. We even brag about the good deal we got. No one brags about how much money they lost. The mints are not focusing on the long range viability of Nclt hobby. Enjoying a coin shouldn't go hand in hand with having a loss, it isn't a car. What would happen, if all collectors waited to buy at a discount on the secondary market. Coins aren't a consumable, gets used up and needs replacing. I wonder how recent worldwide the Nclt section is. I think Canada I think 1971. It started small and was sustainable. People collected examples of everyday coins. The mints need to return to earlier models of sustainability. I'm cutting back because I feel foolish buying a product with declining value, because it was overpriced at the start. I still love coins, but I'm not into making the government rich. Coin collecting shouldn't be only for those rich enough to afford depreciation. Pricing this way will exclude a great amount of people. I don't see why a collection shouldn't be a store of value. The coins with mintages of 5,000 are still worth their issue price. I'm not advocating every coin to increase in value, however, 90% shouldn't be a sink hole either.

Received the Pike today. The Mint really does not understand it's customers. The coin came in a plastic pouch. No issue there. But they jammed the COA in the same small pouch. It's like stuffing a 10lb ham into a 5lb bag. The corners are bent and the whole COA is misshapen. Really Mint? Come on.

That is crappy CC-Ottawa. The COA is part of the purchase and it should not be damaged. You may be able to order a replacement COA. Can you post a photo of the pike, I have been following you guys on this sub and the coins are quite nice and true to the spirit of the fish. Bass was flying, how about the Pike. I landed a few pike and walleye in northwestern Ontario.

Sad, the one thing you could always count on ( Most of the time) is that RCM products are high quality and care taken to protect their products with good packaging etc, I hope this kind of thing doesn't continue. That is just slopping packaging/third rate , this kind of thing happens with ebay sellers who don't think past the the few pennies they can save on packaging/shipping.

That's how the Vancouver 2010 gold coin set were shipped and I felt the mint was really cheap on that, guess I should be happy they didn't come like this one. Very nice coin btw, my favourite of this series.
