I hadn't heard of Boys Town before this post; here in Chicago Boys town is a neighborhood, different from the Boys Town in Nebraska so this could be a source of confusion as well.

This one's a go (assuming the President signs the bill):

Why not? Gold is standard for the commemoratives.

I do not know about that, to me, means I will not be buying. Not until gold comes down to $250 an ounce.

There will be silver ones too, just like all the other recent commems:

Quote:
[The bill] Directs the Secretary of the Treasury to mint and issue up to 50,000 $5 gold coins, 350,000 $1 silver coins, and 300,000 half-dollar clad coins to commemorate the centennial of the founding of Father Flanagan's Boys Town.

I'd just give em the silver and be done with it. It's a good organization but its taking the lead role that year in US commemoratives. Its just me but I'm not getting excited over Boys Town highlighting that year's offering.

To each his or her own, I suppose. I lived in Omaha as a kid, not more than 5 miles from Boys Town, and visited often. So I'm excited for it.

To be clear, I was referring to the gold version. The silver is well within my reach.

Apparently this one is going to happen. President Obama signed it on July 6th, just a couple days after my last post. Looking forward to the design candidates.

I'm a bit late to this party, but I gotta say.....the people saying the coin wouldn't be popular because the subject isn't well known. Really? Do you not watch old movies from the 30's? Spencer Tracy? Mickey Rooney? Little Petey?

I guess this one passed.

I may schedule a trip back to Omaha to see if I remember anything.

I wonder if they will do anything special at boys town, when the coin
is released.

My daughter still lives in that area ....
