Quote: I wonder if they will do anything special at boys town, when the coin is released. They should. It is a good opportunity for some publicity.

The release date has been posted for release of the Boys Town commemoratives. They go on sale March 9th. For other CCF topics discussing the Boy's Town commemoratives, see here and here. With this release, Effigy 5oz, ASE Proof, and AGE releases, and Proof Set, March is going to be an expensive month. Mods: please remove the "(Potentially)" from the title of this thread, if you would be so kind. Thanks!

Quote: The US Mint does not lobby Congress to authorize commemorative coins for its profit. Private sponsors approach their Senator or Congressman with potential coin ideas to benefit their organizations. If acceptable, the ideas are then proposed via a bill introduced in Congress - some get approved, some don't. Once approved by Congress, they must be signed into law by the President. The Public Laws that result direct the Mint to strike the specified commemorative coin - it's not up to the Mint. The Mint produces what it is directed to strike by Congress and the President. Pay to play. Wasn't that the downfall of the of the original commemorative series?

The current setup (2 commemorative programs per year max w/ Congressional and presidential approval) prevents the over saturation of the market and abuse by SIGs.

I plan to wait until March 29th, then I will order the Proof and Unc along with the 2017 Proof set. I think These designs will look great with the large open fields on the obverse. This reminds me of how the Eisenhower dollar proofs look.

Placed my order for an uncirculated example of each of the three coins. As always, I look forward to receiving them.
I think all of the designs have their merits, but IMO the silver dollar has the best chance of being the standout design (obverse and reverse) of the three. I guess I'll know for sure in about a week!

I have tried 3 times today to order one each of the uncirculated and proof silver dollars, but I keep getting a "sorry, unable to process your order at this time..... blah blah blah." Has anyone else had trouble? I guess I'm going to miss out on the introductory price. Interesting that this is occurring close to the introductory price deadline.
