My most valuable coin is a 1939-D nickel in AU condition I originally found in the early 1960's. It was on a Fall Friday evening at my uncle's house when we were searching through a 200$ bag of nickels from a local bank. I popped open a roll and there it was! Since it was my uncle's coins and money I handed it to him.
Fast forward to about 2010 and I was visiting with my now elderly uncle and I asked him if he remembered that 1939-D find nearly 50 years ago. He said "Remember it? I still have it!" I asked him if I could have it. A few months later he called me and told me to come and get the nickel. The coin is now framed and on my wall as a reminder of my numismatic roots.
My Uncle passed away last Summer well into his nineties.
So, that 1939-D nickel is my most "valuable" coin as it means so much to me.

When Scott comes back if I was him I would change the title of this thread to what is your most (sentimentally) valuable coin, actually I don't think you can do that after a day okay I would ask a moderator to change it.

Most valuable is a 1904-O morgan that my grandfather gave me for christmas. It was my first slabbed coin and I like it. I like the high grade, I liked the gift. I LOVED the gift he gave me about 12 years ago though. His entire small cent collection. Circulated, and when I was young I put a lot of it together going through change. I didn't touch it for the next 10 or so years until about a year ago. I've now been into coins for a while and the most valuable coin without a doubt is the unslabbed, worn 1857 Flying Eagle cent I had. I recently bought an older coin, but for a long time that was my oldest. It's worth a couple bucks to anyone, but to me, I'll pass it down some day. For Celticsoul, this same grandfather is over 25 years sober. Really proud of him, and also you as well! SAP, well written. Perfectly put. Glad this thread settled. :)

My most valuable coin is my 1909 S VDB. When I first started collecting coins, it's was the only coin my dad would talk about. It seemed so elusive and it was expensive, at least $100 at the time! Of course I never bought one, since I was young, so I just kept on dreaming. Well, dreams turned into reality 35 years later, when a co-worker of mine brought in some pennies from his recently deceased father for me to look at. One of them was a 1909 S VDB that had been in a safety deposit box since the 1950s. After extensive research, hours under a microscope, and advice from some local experts, I determined it was the real thing. I paid him a very fair price based on Grey Sheet pricing, so he and his siblings are happy, and I couldn't be happier to have this rare coin next to my other Lincolns!

I have no problem changing it if that is what Scott (or the mob) wants. Quote: My most valuable coin is my 1909 S VDB... Great story.

My most valuable coin thus far is a gold ducat re-strike dated 1915. She sure is a sight for sore eyes! Hopefully I can get my hands on a Four Ducat coin soon.

Sentimentally, my most valuable coin is a gold sovereign my grandfather gave me for my First Communion. From what I remember, my Dad told me that because my grandfather could not make it to my First Communion, he wanted to give me this. I was only 7 or 8 at the time so I honestly didn't know what it was at first. A few years later, I asked my dad if we could go to the bank because I wanted to see the coin. So we went and he let me take it home and keep it with me, and that is when I started to collect coins. Sadly, by the time that happened, my grandfather had already passed on.
I think that if I have grand kids, I will keep the tradition going and pass it down for their First Communion. And maybe, just maybe, he/she will also get into coin collecting.

Wow.....I just clicked this exspecting to see people posting what coin meant the most to them....whether its in the monetary sense or sentimental. I didn't see the post that the author was reprimanded for, but wow. I feel compelled to state that people bashing him for this post topic, and being rude with him is pretty sad. If you don't want to participate, then ddon't....no need to be rude. And I understand why people get worried posting high end stuff for fear of theft. But this thread was put up to showcase the coins people cherish. If you have a $20000 coin and are fearful....pick a different one or don't post. It just seems there's always a few people who feel the need to crap on others. Just sad.
Oh, my most valuable coin is my 1827 bust half from my Grandma. Worth about $120. Priceless to me.

Quote: people bashing him for this post topic, and being rude with him is pretty sad Hi coinaddict1795 Which posts bashed him or were rude? Other than the early post saying it was not his business (some might find that a bit rude) I'm not really seeing any that bash or are rude?
