Dateless Buffalo nickels are common. The date was a high part of the design, so it was worn away early in their travels through circulation. There are ways to possibly get a date to show, but those methods usually hurt the coins value.

The wear around the rim and on the devices indicate it has seen lots of circulation (was used a lot).

So you say lots of them in Italy? If so, look for those with dates and a full horn on the Buffalo. Yours is normal. Dates on those were the first thing to get worn off.

The date can be restored, however the coin will be damaged or "details" in TPG lingo. White vinegar soaking or nic-a-date (commercial liquid available at some coin shops and online). Can't really hurt this coin, with the scratches and green gunk on it. Might be worth a shot, this is the ind of coin to experiment with.

I must respectfully disagree about the value being reduced by revealing the date. Dateless buffs are barely worth above face value as it is. And if you reveal a key date, that can sharply increase its value over being dateless.

Simone , Try vinegar and olive oil. IF it doesn't work on that nickel you can always use it on your salad.
NO JUST KIDDING !!
Your nickel with worn date is very common.
