I'm thinking either 55 or 58. I'll go with AU-58.

The seller stated that he thought about sending it in as a regrade...I think that he is right...it seems that the CCF Members think so too! AU53 to 55 would be a nice little raise in value.

I'm amazed this didn't Gold Bean at 53. Check this out, a clearly lesser coin in PCGS/CAC 55:

53? I don't think so. Score. I have it as a strong 55.

My initial thought was AU58.

I'm with Dave, it's definitely a 55.

Coin World says retail as au 53 $600.00. I would pay that any day even if it were listed raw and I didn't see the grade and CAC sticker. Because au 58 says $1250 and as I said if I saw it raw for $600 in a store I would pay $600 no questions asked

I was checking out PCGS coinfacts and their MS63 cover plate O-112 appears to have a flat spot/wear on the curl behind the ear, next to the "Y" in LIBERTY, the wing tips and top of the head of the eagle.

I may have to send this one in for regrade consideration.

I agree, this is a very strong 55 and possibly a 58. I thought I was being tough when I was thinking 55, but 53 seems too low.

I would be shocked if it came back 53.

If you have the money to spare then it's worth a try. You should look at the value difference between a 53 and 55 first though. Since CAC and PCGS saw it in-hand and agree on AU53 then you have to figure AU55 is the best you will end up with.

P.S. There is always a slight chance for a big bump in grade but that would usually require a crack-out and more risk.

I am not a crack out artist (if that is the correct term), if I send it in and it makes a higher grade, great, if not it will stay in the same holder (if I am not mistaken).

As far as value goes, according to PCGS, AU53 is $800 and AU55 is $1100, I believe that it is worth the trouble to give it a try.

Yes, crack-out artist describes it nicely. Scott Travers wrote the book on that game and while it is interesting reading my pockets have never been deep enough to play.

As far as a straight re-grade you should have a good shot at a 55 and who knows, you could score a big upgrade to 58 or better with some luck. The value difference would justify at least one attempt. I had two gold pieces upgrade a point on regrade and several that did not. One of the gold pieces was CAC green beaned at 62 and green beaned again at 63. Your 50c piece would likely green bean at 55 as well.

Thanks for the info. I have read several "regrade" threads and most described a "next level" upgrade (53 to 55, or 55 to 58) or a plus (+) if it is in MS condition. I wonder if a coin (not necessarily this one) would take a couple of steps up, if so, how would that make the graders look if such a transition in grading took place? I realize that times change and grading may have been stricter back in the day, but the graders may have had a bad day or were swamped with lots of orders to process.
